Limerick’s Bottom Dog Theatre Company opens its 14th season of rehearsed readings this Sunday, September 7, as the theatre company celebrates ‘Four European Plays‘ with dates in September and October at No. 1 Pery Square Hotel.

Announcing the return in August, Bottom Dog shared in a social media post, “So delighted to have confirmed the return of Sadlier’s of Limerick as a sponsor for this year’s season of 4 Rehearsed Readings. Last year’s FOUR PULITZER PLAYS was a huge success, offering many young Limerick actors their professional debut, alongside many of our finest veterans.”

Over four Sundays in September and October, some of Limerick’s finest actors bring to life a selection of bold and brilliant works from across Europe. Experience the wit of Dario Fo, the sharp satire of Václav Havel, the biting absurdism of Sławomir Mrożek, and a world premier finale with the first public reading of our brand new play from seven esteemed Limerick writers – Seven Deadly Sins.

This year, the series begins on Sunday, September 7, with ‘We Can’t Pay, We Won’t Pay’, written by the Nobel Prize-winning playwright, Dario Fo, from Italy, with this adaptation brought to the rehearsal space by Maurice O’Sullivan.

On Sunday, September 21, Polish writer Sławomir Mrożek’s Tango takes the stage under the direction of Justyna Cwojdzínska, offering audiences a taste of Mrożek’s signature absurdism. September’s offerings are capped off on Sunday, September 28, with ‘The Garden Party’ by the Czech playwright, Václav Havel, directed by Marketa Dowling, this play will bring a satirical lens to this year’s lineup of plays.

Closing out this year’s Four Plays with Bottom Dog Theatre on Sunday, October 5, audiences will be treated to a world premiere with a first public reading of ‘Seven Deadly Sins’, a new collaborative play written by some of Limerick’s top talent, with input from Róisín Meaney, Dan Mooney, Elaine O’Dwyer, Donal Ryan, Stephen Ryan, Johanne Webb, and Sam Widrim. ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ is directed by Myles Breen and will offer the perfect opportunity to experience so of the city and county’s incredible talent.

Describing this season’s Four Plays, Myles Breen of Bottom Dog Theatre told I Love Limerick, “ On Sunday, October 5, we finish with ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ a new work created by Bottom Dog Theatre Company with a number of local Limerick writers, we look forward to seeing you there, and you can book on Eventbrite!”

Performances begin at 8 pm each Sunday with doors at 7.45 pm, and tickets are provided on a “pay what you can” basis, with Bottom Dog Theatre saying, “We welcome and encourage donations on the night. Your support directly sustains professional theatre in Limerick.”
