The 2025 Darkness Into Light walk will return to Limerick City at 4:15am on Saturday, 10 May, starting from TUS Moylish Campus

Now in its 16th year, Darkness Into Light, the symbolic 5km walk unites the community in the early hours of the morning, journeying from darkness into dawn – a powerful symbol of hope for those impacted by suicide and self-harm.
Organised by Pieta and proudly supported by Electric Ireland, Darkness Into Light is Pieta’s biggest fundraising event.
It provides critical support for the charity’s free, professional, and life-saving suicide and self-harm prevention services.
Over 100,000 people are expected to participate globally this year, with over 3,800 walkers showing up in Limerick in 2024 alone. This year’s event aims to build on the success of last year’s incredible €4.5 million total raised.
Stephanie Manahan, CEO of Pieta, highlighted the importance of community participation, “The funds we raise each year through Darkness Into Light are essential in sustaining Pieta’s free, professional, and accessible support services.

“Every lifesaving conversation, every lifesaving counselling session, and every moment of suicide and self-harm prevention we provide is made possible by the generosity of those who sign up, show up, and walk.”#
Louise Cooney, Munster Ambassador and Limerick native, launched this year’s walk with a heartfelt call to action, “Darkness Into Light is more than just a walk — it’s a powerful statement of hope and solidarity.
“Every step taken helps fund Pieta’s lifesaving services, ensuring that no one has to face their darkest moments alone. The incredible support in Munster last year showed the strength of our communities — we encourage even more people to join us in 2025 to bring light into the lives of those in crisis.”
In 2024, Pieta provided over 51,000 hours of therapy, supporting nearly 7,000 people, with 13,512 hours and 1,806 people supported in Munster alone. Participation in Darkness Into Light ensures the continued availability of these services, which rely heavily on public donations for funding.
