The Don Reddan Charity Golf Classic, took place on Friday, May 9, hosted by Limerick Central Rotary, is being heralded as a huge success, raising funds for two deserving Limerick services.

Now in its third year running, the golf fundraiser saw incredible participation from dozens of four-ball teams, who competed in a friendly scramble format at Limerick Golf Club, with an entry fee of €300 per team going to the charities and more raised through tee-box sponsorships by locally-based companies, adding to a great day which generated financial support for the two local charities.

“ Our charities this year are Down Syndrome Limerick and Milford Care Centre,” said  Gerard Lynch, president of Limerick Central Rotary Club, adding, “We’re delighted to work with those charities because they actually need all the funding they can get to help people in the community and the people of Limerick. It is great to be able to support these charities, and it’s great to be here in Limerick Golf Club.”

Adding excitement to the competition was a high-stakes hole-in-one contest, with a brand new BYD electric car on offer, generously provided by Lyons of Limerick, who are currently celebrating two years of BYD in Ireland, speaking about the support from their sponsors, Mr Lynch said, “This event wouldn’t happen without the generosity of our sponsors, players, and the club itself.”

The Limerick Rotary Club president noted fundraisers such as these are important for the charities as well as the club, saying, “This is our third year running, it’s great to be able to help the charities. A lot of them don’t get any government funding, and they rely on fundraisers and classics like this and different fundraisers in Limerick to run the charities and help children, help sick people. I just feel great to be able to help, and I feel great that our club can be part of that.”

Players were treated to goodie bags, refreshments, and an impressive prize pool, with thanks extended to local businesses, including Lyons of Limerick and Don Reddan Insurance.

Michelle Coughlan, chairperson of Down Syndrome Limerick, expressed deep gratitude, saying, “ We don’t receive any funding from the government, so we rely on fundraising events like this. We rely on generous donations from the public, and we rely on sponsorship in order for us to make the dreams of our members come true and for them to be able to reach their fullest potential.”

Kieran Dore, Head of Finance at Milford Care Centre, echoed Ms Coughlan’s sentiment, saying, “ We’re so delighted in Milford Care Centre to accept any proceeds and all donations that this Golf Classic has generated. All proceeds go towards the services that Milford Care Centre provides in the Midwest region.

“We are extremely delighted with all the fundraising events that happen. That the public arranged for this particular event is really going towards all the services we provide, and we want to thank everybody involved in this Golf Classic.”
