The annual Dooneen Athletic Club 10-Mile Road Race, held in memory of Michal Rejmer, is set to take place on Sunday, April 13th in Limerick. This much-anticipated event continues to unite the running community, while offering participants a challenging and rewarding race experience.

The 2025 Dooneen 10 Mile event is held in honour of Michal Rejmer, a dedicated marathon runner who sadly passed away in 2015, but whose passion for the sport and contagious enthusiasm for life continues to inspire the local running community. His enduring influence is felt each year as runners gather to celebrate his legacy.

This year’s 2025 Dooneen 10 Mile race will start at 11 am from Limerick Racecourse (V94K858), guiding runners through the scenic landscapes of Patrickswell, Raheen, Lemonfield, and Crecora, before finishing back at the racecourse for some well-earned refreshments and the prize-giving. Whether competing for a personal best or embracing the occasion as a recreational runner, participants can expect a well-organised and welcoming atmosphere.

HOMS Assist proudly returns as the official sponsor for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrating its continued commitment to the local community. The support of HOMS Assist, together with Dooneen Athletic Club, reinforces the significance of this event as a key fixture on Limerick’s annual sporting calendar.

HOMS Assist’s sponsorship is particularly meaningful, as Partner, Robert Bourke, an avid marathon runner, shares a personal connection to the event. The firm’s commitment to supporting local initiatives aligns with the race’s ethos of resilience, determination, and community spirit. Commenting on this, Robert Bourke said “One of the highlights of this race is the powerful sense of belonging it fosters. It’s more than just a race, it is a gathering of like-minded individuals coming together to honour a shared passion for running, while celebrating a remarkable legacy.

This is the only chip-timed 10-mile road race held annually in Limerick, perfect for those training for events like the Great Limerick Run in May, or the Dublin City Marathon in October. Joe Chawke, Chairperson of Dooneen Athletic Club explains: “The Dooneen Athletic Club 10-Mile Road Race offers something for everyone, from competitive runners to casual participants starting out on their running journey. It’s a natural progression for those who’ve completed 10Ks like Caherconlish or Adare and is excellent preparation for anyone gearing up for a half or full marathon.”

The 2025 edition of the race sees the introduction of a relay team category, encouraging greater participation and teamwork. Relay teams will consist of two runners, covering distances of four and six miles respectively. Additionally, corporate teams of four (with at least one female participant) are also invited to compete.

The event has a prize fund of €2,000, recognising top performers across various categories. The first 500 finishers will receive bespoke commemorative medals. Post-race refreshments, including a local favourite, artisan ice cream, will be available to all participants and supporters.

Encouraging as many people to join the event on April 13th, Robert Bourke concluded: “Getting involved in the race, whether as an individual, a relay participant, volunteer, or a spectator, is a chance to connect with the Limerick community, make new friends, and enjoy an uplifting day out.”

Registration is now open, but spots are limited, so secure your place early to avoid disappointment.  The entry fee is €25 for individual runners, and €20 per person for relay teams.
