Limerick’s Sinead O’Brien, founder of Vacious, the inclusive shapewear and swimwear brand, has been announced as the 2025 GOSS Women of the Year Best Start Up Award winner.

Limerick native Sinead O’Brien, founder of the inclusive shapewear and swimwear brand Vacious, has been named Best Start-Up at this year’s prestigious awards, sponsored by the Local Enterprise Office.

Sponsored by Local Enterprise Office, the prestigious Best Start-Up of the year award winner was chosen by a highly esteemed all-female judging panel.

The judging panel featured Head of External Communications at Google Ireland, Julie Dilger; Former Member of the European Parliament, Frances Fitzgerald; Sports and Entertainment Broadcaster, Gráinne McElwain; and Senior Enterprise Development Executive, Deirdre Carroll.

Making up the rest of the panel were Broadcaster Muireann O’Connell; Founder and MD of Seahorse Media, Debbie O’Donnell; RTÉ Sports Broadcaster and Author, Jacqui Hurley; Businesswoman, Publisher & Broadcaster, Norah Casey; Founder and MD of Valerie Roe PR, Valerie Roe; Founder and CEO of Goss Media, Alexandra Ryan; and Editor of Goss.ie, Kendra Becker.

Since 2021, Vacious has become known as one of Ireland’s most empowering brands built on inclusivity and confidence, following the brand’s aim to “accentuate your curves & complement your body”, with the company adding, “We want to help unlock the confidence you already have & use our pieces as a canvas to your wardrobe.”

In 2025, Vacious expanded its collections with new shades and styles, strengthening its reputation both in Ireland and internationally. Following the award announcement, Sinead posted on social media saying, “Winner of Best Start – Up at the Women of the year awards GOSS.ie 2025! I cannot believe it. So proud of Vacious cannot wait to take it home to Limerick love you mama x #GOSSWOTY25.”

Also nominated in the same category was Limerick’s Aoife McNamara for her brand ‘Aoife’, which produces environmentally-conscious fashion lines from their beautiful Adare studio.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
