Dromcollogher-Broadford’s Cillian Fahy has been named as captain for the 2025 campaign

The squad announcement comes ahead of Limerick‘s Division 4 opener as the Treaty Men make the trip to Glennon Brothers Pearse Park to take on Longford this Sunday, January 26.

Following what was a mixed year for Jimmy Lee’s side where the team lost all seven of their National League campaign in Division 3 which saw the team relegated to Division 4 for the forthcoming season, the 38-man squad will hope to get off to the perfect start this Sunday.

For the 2025 season, the squad has seen a significant turnover with some key figure departing the squad including Seán O’Dea, Diarmuid Kelly, and Robbie Bourke making up some of the 15 changes.

The changes to the squad have also seen Dromcollogher-Broadford’s Cillian Fahy named as captain last week, succeeding Iain Corbett who remains as a player for the season. Barry Coleman and Tommie Childs have been appointed joint vice-captains.

Reflecting on Corbett’s captaincy, Chairman of Limerick Gaelic Football Committee, Wayne Fitzgerald stated, “Through Iain’s leadership, we’ve learned the importance of resilience in the face of defeat, the power of unity in moments of doubt, and the joy of celebrating victories together. His presence has been more than just a captain, it has been a cornerstone of Limerick football’s identity.”

Looking to Fahy, Mr Fitzgerald said, “I want to congratulate Cillian Fahy as captain and Barry Coleman and Tommie Childs as vice-captains of the Limerick senior football team and wish them the very best in their new roles.”

Jimmy Lee, who was ratified for another year as manager in September, reflected on the challenges of 2024 and acknowledged the team are in a rebuilding process, saying, “It’s definitely about rebuilding the whole thing from scratch again. We’re in the bottom Division in the league and we have to learn from that. It’s getting on with that from there.”

Limerick’s Division 4 campaign includes games against Wicklow, Wexford, Carlow, Tipperary, London, and Waterford.
