The 2025 Limerick Wild Geese Festival will take place from Thursday, July 3rd to Sunday, July 6th, 2025, continuing its proud tradition as a community-led, non-profit event commemorating the Flight of the Wild Geese and celebrating the enduring friendship between Ireland and France.

Organised by Alliance Française Limerick, one of the city’s longest-running non-profit organisations, the festival is supported by the French Embassy, Limerick City & County Council, and around 30 local groups, businesses, and institutional sponsors. It promises a packed programme of artistic, educational, and family-friendly events to engage visitors of all ages and interests.

Kicking off on Thursday, June 26th at 7.30pm, the festival features The Hennessy Wild Geese Cypher Hip Hop Trail, showcasing rap and live music that bring a fresh and contemporary perspective to this historic celebration.

On Thursday, July 3rd at 6pm, the French Sparkling Wine Summer Party offers a taste of French culture with delicious food and drink in a relaxed, celebratory atmosphere.

Friday, July 4th at 5.30pm presents A Very Jacobite Evening in Limerick, a night rich in history and heritage exploring the Jacobite influence in the region.

Saturday, July 5th is a highlight-packed day starting with the Patrick Sarsfield Panel Official Unveiling Ceremony at 10.30am. The day continues with the Annual Hunt Museum Pétanque Tournament at 11am, offering fun competition for families and players of all ages.

The Living History Camp, opening at 12pm on Saturday, July 5th, invites visitors to step back in time with immersive historical reenactments and interactive displays.

That evening at 7.30pm on Saturday, July 5th, the Annual Wild Geese Banquet will be held, celebrating heritage with a carefully prepared menu and lively entertainment, providing a wonderful opportunity for community gathering and cultural appreciation.

The festival closes on Sunday, July 6th with the Annual Wild Geese Parade and Flag Raising Ceremony at 2pm. This free event, steeped in history and community spirit, will once again feature music, ceremonial flag raising, and a procession through the city.

Following the parade, at 3pm on Sunday, July 6th, a Musical Journey Into the Past concert will take place, offering free live music that beautifully ties together the festival’s themes of history and cultural exchange.

Festival organiser Dr Loïc Guyon commented, “The Limerick Wild Geese Festival continues to be a highlight of the city’s summer calendar, reflecting its deep historical roots and the vibrant friendship between Ireland and France.”

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online.
