Mid-West Simon Community announces that its Annual Fundraising Ball will take place on Saturday, October 11, at 6:30 pm in the Limerick Strand Hotel.
Launching the Ball for the charity, Craig Casey, Mid-West Simon Ambassador, said he is “absolutely delighted” to help the group with fundraising campaigns at a time when homelessness figures are at record highs.
Craig Casey said, “I’m absolutely delighted to still be the ambassador for Mid-West Simon and to be helping them in their fundraising campaigns. Unfortunately, at the minute, homeless figures are at record high levels, increasing the demand for our services.
“The Midwest Simon Ball is always key to the charity to help raise funds for these services but, this year in particular, the event will help towards getting the doors open for a social grocery in Limerick, the very first one in Ireland. I’m really proud to be involved in a charity that does such good work around my local city and beyond and urge people to help out in any way possible.”
For the second year in a row, the Ball will focus on raising funds for the Mid West Simon Social Grocery, a pioneering project designed to combat food poverty in Limerick City.
With help from a generous donation from the JP McManus Pro Am, the building for the Social Grocery has been purchased and we are now moving through the planning permission phase of the project. The charity say they “are looking to raise vital funds for the renovation of the premises”, adding, “The success of events like the Annual Fundraising Ball is critical to maintaining and modernising our services.”

Once opened, the Social Grocery will operate as a social enterprise model, offering groceries at reduced prices to those in need. However, it will be much more than just a place to buy food. It will be a resource centre aimed at empowering individuals and families by providing them with access to fresh, nutritious food, essential items, and a variety of support services and training courses.
As an organisation, Mid-West Simon Community has made significant strides in enhancing its services in collaboration with the local authority. The Mid-West Simon Community Annual Fundraising Ball has become a fixture in Limerick’s social calendar.
This year’s annual ball promises to be a night of elegance and enjoyment, with over 200 guests expected to attend. It is a great opportunity for the community to come out and support the work of Mid-West Simon Community. The success of events like the Annual Fundraising Ball is critical to maintaining and modernising our services. All proceeds from the event will go directly towards the Mid-West Simon Social Grocery and other essential services offered by the charity.
CEO of Mid-West Simon Community, Niall Garvey, said, “As well as raising much-needed funds, the ball is an opportunity to reflect on the excellent work done over the last year but also to plan for the challenges which still lie ahead.”
