NOVAS annual Christmas sleep-out brings communities together

The annual NOVAS Christmas Sleep-Out in Limerick City saw more than 40 people brave the winter weather to bed down outside Brown Thomas for the night
On Saturday, December 6 2025, NOVAS hosted its annual Christmas Sleep-Out in Limerick City, which saw more than 40 people braving the winter weather to bed down outside Brown Thomas for the night.
The NOVAS sleep-out was an opportunity to put a spotlight on growing homeless figures in the region, particularly those who are forced to sleep on the street, as well as raise vital funds that enable NOVAS to reach more marginalised people in our local communities. So far €20,000 has been raised, with donations still coming in all the time.
The event was a fantastic occasion for everyone involved, and Una Deasy, NOVAS, thanked every person who “kindly donated to the event on the night or sponsored someone who was participating”.

Una said, “I particularly wish to acknowledge all those who slept out all night. We are so grateful for your support. The collective effort made all the difference in creating a festive atmosphere throughout the event.”
She went on to say how “unimaginably difficult” it can be for people who experience the conditions every night when thinking about both “personal safety and inclement weather”. She said, “This event gave us the briefest glimpse into how hard it is to be homeless, to have nowhere safe to go at the end of the day and to constantly be out of doors.”
Throughout the Midwest region, NOVAS supports thousands of people annually through a range of frontline services and interventions. In Limerick, NOVAS provides emergency homeless accommodation, social housing, health and recovery services, family support services and street outreach.
All these services have experienced a significant rise in demand over the past 24 months, with more people than ever seeking support, accommodation and housing. Each night, NOVAS Street Outreach provides a warm meal, advice, support and signposting to up to 50 individuals. This service is run by a dedicated volunteer team and relies entirely on fundraising endeavours to operate. The Christmas Sleep-Out is one of these events.
