The Crescent Shopping Centre has expressed its pride in returning as sponsors of the 2026 Regeneron Great Limerick Run Volunteer Programme.

The Volunteer Programme helps bring communities together for what is widely regarded as the largest mass participation sporting event outside of Dublin and is an event in the Limerick calendar, generating significant social, cultural, and economic benefits for the city and region.

Eimear Dwan, Marketing Manager at Crescent Shopping Centre, told I Love Limerick, “ We are proud sponsors of the volunteer programme, which includes volunteers from different clubs and societies across Limerick city and county. And they all get together on the day and support and volunteer in different ways, there’s a variety of clubs and societies involved, so we’re only delighted to get involved and support them.”

On the day, participants support and volunteer in different ways, with numerous groups coming together to contribute to the overall success of the event. Eimear added, “ It’s great to be part of, I suppose, a larger Limerick initiative and an event such as this, and we look forward to it every year.”

This sponsorship not only fosters community engagement but also helps these groups raise vital funds for their respective endeavours. The opportunity to volunteer is open to everybody, and is a great opportunity for clubs and societies to get out and show their support for the local community as well as raise awareness and funds for their cause.

Brian O’Leary, Manager of the Crescent Shopping Centre, described the sponsorship as something the Crescent is very proud to be part of, noting their involvement spans a number of years. He told I Love Limerick, “It’s something we’re really proud to be a part of. It’s something we’ve been a part of for a number of years now, and it’s a really good thing for Limerick City.

“It’s such a good buzz, the weekend here, the May Bank Holiday weekend is fantastic. I think for clubs as well, it’s a really good opportunity for them to raise funds, for teams and everybody to just come out and get involved!

The opportunity to volunteer is open to everybody, and Brian added, “it is a great opportunity for clubs and societies to get out and show their support for the local community as well as raise awareness and funds for their cause. The Volunteer Program is part of the Great Limerick Run, and the volunteers that are rounded up help on the day of the event – water stations, stewarding, making sure everybody has a really safe and enjoyable time. We’re just delighted to be a part of it.”

Following last year’s phenomenal success of the Regeneron Great Limerick Run, which saw over 18,000 participants take part across the weekend, organisers are preparing for another milestone year as the event continues to grow in scale, popularity, and impact.

In 2025, as thousands of participants took to the streets of Limerick, over 600 dedicated volunteers played a vital role in ensuring the smooth and successful delivery of the event, as well as raising more than €28,000 for participating clubs from across the region.

Following the 2025 event, Managing Director of The Bear Group, Sliabh Wells, expressed his gratitude, “The Regeneron Great Limerick Run continues to thrive thanks to the incredible team behind it – especially our volunteers. Without them, this event simply wouldn’t be possible.

“We want to extend an enormous thank you to Crescent Shopping Centre, whose ongoing support of the Volunteer Programme plays a vital role in making this event what it is. This year’s record-breaking success is a true reflection of what can happen when a community comes together.”
