Limerick Central Rotary Club and Limerick Golf Club hosted the 2026 Don Reddan Charity Golf Classic in support of DÓCHAS and the Butterfly Club.
Club President Denise Brazil and Community Chair Ger Lynch said the fourth edition of the event featured 38 teams, more than 30 tee box sponsors and 27 prizes.
The day also brought the opportunity for golfers to win a new car as Lyons of Limerick sponsored the 16th hole, where a hole-in-one would see a lucky player drive away in a new BYD car.
Ger Lynch said, “Every year we support local charities, so it’s great to support local charities, help the communities and help the people around us. I just want to thank Limerick Golf Club, Lyons of Limerick, and all our sponsors. Without them, we wouldn’t have this event, and also the team at Rotary, we have a fantastic team behind us.”
The event provides much-needed support for local charities each year, and Julia from the Butterfly Club in Rathkeale said the charity is grateful for the fundraising efforts.
She said, “ We’re very grateful to the Rotary Club for organising this event for us today. We’re a volunteer group, we offer respite to 54 children from the West Limerick area, and we offer that one Saturday per month. Without the support of a group like this, we wouldn’t be able to function, so to everyone who organised, we very much appreciate your support!”
One founding member of DÓCHAS said the funds raised at events such as this are “ploughed” back into the charity. She said, “ We have over 300 children and young adults supported per week, plus about more than 30 with a diagnosis of autism employed, gainfully employed between our art room, our cafe, and our gym.
“We’re delighted, and we want to thank the Rotary Club very much for organising this and donating money to us because every penny that’s given is ploughed back into helping young people and adults, young adults with autism.”
Limerick Rotary Club President Denise Brazil said events such as the Golf Classic capture the essence of the club, “ Days like today show what we do best as a club, which is our fundraising projects such as our annual Golf Classic. Adding excitement to the competition was a high-stakes hole-in-one contest, with a brand new BYD electric car on offer, generously provided by Lyons of Limerick. This event wouldn’t happen without the generosity of our sponsors, players, and the club itself.
“We are a volunteer-based club. We have 20 members based here in the heart of Limerick City Centre, and we’re always looking for new members to join us. So if you’re looking to give back to your community, support good causes, and enjoy the fellowship of Rotary, please get in touch, and we’d love to have you join us.”
Looking forward to future fundraisers, Ger Lynch called on the public to get involved, saying, “Anyone who sees this, stick your name in next year. Don’t miss out!”
Rotary brings together a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary connects 1.4 million members of more than 46,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas.
