The 2026 European Sport For All Games will turn Limerick City into a playground for traditional sports and games from August 7 to 10

The European Sport For All Games will take place across the city from August 7th to 10th, 2026, bringing a colourful celebration of sport, culture and heritage to the city this August.

This is the 3rd TAFISA European Sport for All Games. Building on the success of the first two editions held in the Netherlands (2018) and Italy (2022), the Games will once again bring together communities, cultures, and traditions from across Europe to celebrate inclusion, participation, and diversity through Sport for All.

The Limerick 2026 Games will feature a vibrant programme of traditional, emerging, and recreational sports and games, as well as cultural performances, workshops, and events across the city and county. From local clubs to international delegations, participants from all over the world are expected to join in this celebration of movement, culture, and community spirit.

From King John’s Castle to the Milk Market, the Games will transform Limerick city centre into a vibrant celebration of sport, culture and community, with traditional games, performances and cultural experiences from across Europe taking place in parks, streets and public spaces throughout the city.

The games will attract over 250 participants from 26 European delegations, for four days of sport, cultural exchange and public events and will be a huge boost to both tourism and the economy. 

26 European Delegations will bring their traditional living games and sports to Limerick’s streets, parks and public spaces. With free activities taking place at locations throughout the city, people of all ages and abilities are encouraged to come out, join in and enjoy the festival atmosphere.

A number of new activities have now been added to the action-packed programme, offering even more opportunities for members of the public to watch, try and enjoy something different.

Opening day on Friday, August 7th, sees the games get underway with a full day of celebrations including a Community Sports Day at Mary Immaculate College from 11 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 3 pm, giving visitors the chance to try a wide range of sports and activities in one location. Running alongside this is the “How Sport and Physical Activity Can Impact Culture” Conference from 10 am to 4 pm, and the day concludes with the Official Opening Ceremony at King John’s Castle from 6 pm to 8 pm, marking the beginning of the international festival.

On Saturday, August 8th and Sunday, August 9th, the city transforms into a giant playground as visitors are invited to come and try more than 40 sports and traditional games from around the world between 11 am and 4 pm. Activities are spread across Honan’s Quay, Arthur’s Quay Park, the Hunt Museum Garden, People’s Park and O’Connell Avenue, with demonstrations and hands-on experiences led by international and Irish organisations. 

Irish delegates will share several distinctive traditions with their European counterparts, including Irish stone lifting and Bataireacht, the traditional Irish art of stick fighting. Both will be demonstrated in the People’s Park on both Saturday and Sunday, giving visitors an insight into Ireland’s sporting heritage, folklore and centuries-old tests of strength and skill.

Wheelchair hurling will also feature on O’Connell Avenue, showcasing a fast-paced and inclusive adaptation of Ireland’s national game. Other additions include freestyle football, Capoeira, baton twirling, kettlebell sport and activities by Limerick-based cultural group Latino Malekum.

There will be something for everyone, whether you want to discover an unfamiliar International sport, experience an Irish tradition, enjoy the performances or simply soak up the atmosphere.

Visitors are invited to discover everything from traditional GAA games, Italian Tamburello, Indian Kho Kho, to Dodgeball, Disc Golf, Wheelchair Hurling and Kettlebell Lifting. Dance performances and workshops featuring groups from Denmark and Germany also take place throughout the weekend across all locations.

The festival concludes on Monday, August 10th with one final opportunity to get involved through a Community Sports Day on the grounds of The White House, University of Limerick, from 11 am to 1 pm, bringing together a variety of sports and activities in one location.

The Official Closing Party will then take place at the Limerick Milk Market from 6 pm to 8 pm.
