Limerick Sports Partnership and TAFISA confirm the 2026 European Sport for All Games will take place in Limerick from August 6-11

Limerick will host the European Sport for All Games 2026 from 6-11 August. Limerick Sports Partnership, in partnership with TAFISA (The Association for International Sport for All), has confirmed that the 3rd European Sport for All Games will take place in Limerick from 6th–11th August 2026.

The five-day Games will bring together over 250 participants from 26 European delegations, transforming parks, streets and public spaces into a vibrant and colourful celebration of traditional sports, games, heritage and culture. Demonstrations and performances will take place across the city, and people of all ages and abilities are welcome to take part.
As Ireland takes over the EU Presidency in July, the Games will be a European cultural showcase welcoming delegations from across the member states, underscoring Limerick’s Global Active City status as an inclusive and accessible host city.

The Games are being organised by Limerick Sports Partnership and TAFISA in collaboration with Limerick City and County Council, University of Limerick, Sport Ireland, and co-funded by the European Union.

Minister for Arts, Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, said the event represents “everything that is positive about sport”, including participation, inclusion, and community.

He said, “As Ireland holds the EU Presidency in 2026, it is particularly fitting that Limerick will welcome delegations from across Europe in a celebration of culture, heritage and active living. I’m confident Limerick will provide the warmest of welcomes to our visitors and embrace this unique celebration of traditional sports and games.”

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran said the Treaty County is “proud to host the European Sport for All Games in 2026”.

HE said, “This event will bring a wonderful energy to our streets, parks and public spaces as communities come together to celebrate sport, culture and friendship. It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Limerick as a vibrant, welcoming and active city on the European stage.”

Sport Ireland Director of Participation, Mary Van Lieshout, said, “Limerick’s Global Active City status highlights its leadership in reimagining everyday spaces to support regular physical activity. The European Sport For All Games will be a powerful example of this in action.”

Manager of Limerick Sports Partnership, Phelim Macken, said, “Confirming the dates marks an important milestone as we build momentum towards August 2026. We look forward to further unlocking the potential of Limerick’s parks and public spaces through the Games, and inviting communities to experience and participate in this European festival celebration.”

President of TAFISA, Wolfgang Baumann, said, “The European Sport for All Games represents the very best of European cooperation, demonstrating friendship, culture and participation through sport. Limerick’s commitment to activating its public spaces and engaging the whole community makes it an ideal host city to stage this wonderful showcase of Europe’s living sporting traditions.”
