Following a hard-fought win for Limerick over Galway, which saw the Treaty men come out on top 2-27 to 0-31, extending their winning run to 5, Limerick manager John Kiely said his team will be focused on improving their performance and execution levels ahead of the upcoming Hurling League Final clash.

Limerick are set to host Cork on Sunday, April 5 at 4 pm, in what promises to be a great day of hurling with a double header as Dublin takes on Clare in the Allianz Hurling League Division 1B Final earlier in the day.

Speaking after their win over the Tribesmen on Saturday, March 21, John Kiely said his team will now be focused on preparing for the upcoming final as they hope to learn valuable lessons from their dip in their second-half performance in the game.

”We’ve played them twice already, and the two teams we played have been totally different. I have no doubt that there’ll be a lot of differences between the team that we will meet in the league final and the team we will meet in the championship.

“I think for us right now, we’re very focused on ourselves. For the next 10 days, 12 days, we’re going to be focused on that second half dip in terms of our performance levels, our execution levels. So that’s where our focus is going to be. It’s not going be what Cork team is going to turn out in two weeks’ time, we’ll leave them worry about that. We’ve a lot to do ourselves.”

Reflecting on the takeaways from the victory of Galway, Kiely noted the team “held the line” very well in the second half and lessons were learned from the performance. He said, “ Do I regret what happened? From a learning perspective, after the game, having got the two points? Definitely not. I think that second half will really have been a very valuable experience for us in terms of our reflections, our analysis.

“When we will have our conversations with the player group, I think we’ll have a far more meaningful conversation now than what we would’ve had at halftime if that was how the score was to finish. A lot to be learned from tonight.”

Limerick will be at home at the TUS Gaelic Grounds for the Final of the Allianz Hurling League as they welcome Limerick on Sunday, April 5. The game forms part of a double header, with the Allianz Hurling League Division 1B Final seeing Clare meet Dublin at 1:45 pm.
