The 2026 Milford Care Centre 10km Run/Walk welcomed more than 2,400 participants to what is the much-loved charity’s first key fundraising event of the year

More than 2,400 people laced up their shoes for the annual 10km Run/Walk in support of Milford Care Centre on Sunday, February 22, for what is the charity’s first key fundraiser of 2026.
Celebrating its 14th year, the annual fundraiser is thought to be the perfect warm-up event for the upcoming Regeneron Great Limerick Run, saw participants gather at University of Limerick in Castletroy as well as many taking part virtually across Ireland and beyond.
Mary O’Brien, Milford Care Centre CEO, said the charity was “delighted” to welcome so many supporters to the event. She said, “ We were so delighted to welcome everyone here today. There were over 2,400 participants, and today would not have been possible only for the organising committee, fundraising, donations, and coordinators, as well as all the volunteers across the sector.”
The inclusive event, supported by Dell Technologies and Stryker, welcomed runners and walkers of all fitness levels, with Five-time All-Ireland winning Limerick senior hurler Gearóid Hegarty officially launching the 2026 fundraiser earlier this year, urging the community to get involved. Funds raised through the event help sustain specialist palliative care and older persons’ services provided in patients’ own homes, as well as in the hospice and residential settings.

Explaining the importance of the fundraiser as well as the support from participants and volunteers, Ms O’Brien said, “ The services that we give are across the Midwest, and we provide services in the house, in your own home, or in our hospice or residential setting. But the funds we get from these fundraising events go towards buying equipment, enhancing the environment, and improving services for our patients. We are so grateful for your support, and we can’t thank you enough!”
