St. Gabriel’s Foundation welcomed friends and supporters to the beautiful Dunraven Arms Hotel for its annual ladies’ lunch, marking almost 20 years of generosity, friendship and community spirit – all while raising vital funds for children and families across the region.

In a relaxed and uplifting summer setting, the event brought together a remarkable network of women whose continued support has raised hundreds of thousands of euro over the years, making a lasting and meaningful difference to those who rely on St. Gabriel’s services.

Speaking on the day, Aideen Shinners, Interim CEO of St. Gabriel’s Foundation, shared her gratitude, “It is a real pleasure to be here with you all today. For almost 20 years, this event has brought together an incredible community of women who care deeply and give so generously. What you have achieved over the years is truly extraordinary, and we are so grateful for your continued support.”

Funds raised from this year’s event will support the Foundation’s Alternative Respite Programme, helping children with disabilities access inclusive and engaging summer camp experiences that promote connection, participation and fun.

The programme provides opportunities for children to stay socially connected during the school holidays — a time when routines can change and access to activities may be reduced. It also offers families important support during this period, knowing their child is participating in a safe, enjoyable and well-supported environment.

“This programme gives children the opportunity to take part in meaningful summer activities while also supporting families during the school holidays,” Ms. Shinners added.

The Foundation expressed sincere thanks to the many local businesses who supported the raffle and to all those who hosted tables on the day. Appreciation was also extended to key sponsors including Keanes Jewellers, Rita and Diarmuid Geary, Forrestals, and Catherine McCormack.

Special recognition was given to the dedicated volunteer committee – Rita Geary, Agnes Bouchier-Hayes, and Lucia Randles – whose energy and commitment help bring the event to life each year.

“Today is a celebration of community, generosity, and everything we can achieve together. You truly make all of this possible,” said Ms. Shinners.

Events like this play an important role in helping St. Gabriel’s to bridge the gap at a time when services are under increasing pressure and demand continues to grow. Community fundraising provides vital additional support, allowing the organisation to enhance programmes, reach more families, and continue delivering services that might otherwise be limited by funding constraints.

This event was a lovely reminder of the power of community, highlighting both the impact of long-standing support and the importance of ensuring children with additional needs can enjoy the simple pleasures of summer.
