The theme for Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2026 has been revealed as the “Legends of Limerick”, celebrating the remarkable people, stories and moments that have shaped the county’s unique identity.

This year’s festival will run from March 13 to 17 as the theme honours local legends from past and present, from ancient myths and medieval folklore to the county’s sporting heroes and contemporary icons who continue to inspire.

Community groups, cultural organisations, venues, businesses and event producers are now invited to take part in Limerick St. Patrick’s Festival 2026 by applying to participate in the festival.

As part of this process, the Festivals and Events Section of Limerick City and County Council is issuing an Open Call for Applications for financial support to assist in the delivery of parades and events that will form part of the St. Patrick’s Festival programme across Limerick city and county.

Limerick City and County Council are calling on groups and businesses to “Be a Legend: Register to be part of the Limerick City St. Patricks’ Day Parade”.

Last year’s parade drew 1,500 participants, while 70,000 spectators packed the city centre, transforming Limerick into a sea of music, colour and joyous celebration.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran said the festival is an opportunity to “highlight what makes Limerick truly unique”.

He said, “The Legends of Limerick theme gives communities a chance to honour the people, stories and achievements that define our county. I encourage groups and organisations to apply and be part of this year’s festival, a proud celebration of place and identity.”

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery, said the theme “captures the creativity, resilience and ambition that runs through our communities”.

She said, “This Open Call supports a diverse range of events right across the city and county, ensuring St. Patrick’s Festival continues to be a powerful showcase for Limerick’s cultural life.”

Dr. Pat Daly, Director General, Limerick City and County Council, added, “By supporting projects in communities across the county, we are helping to animate our towns and neighbourhoods while celebrating the stories and individuals who have shaped our shared heritage and continue to inspire future generations.”
