Limerick Libraries invite children of all ages to dive into the joy of reading with the 2026 Summer Stars Reading Programme

Summer Stars Reading Programme returns to Limerick Libraries for 2026
Summer Stars is a free national programme that encourages children to read for fun during the school holidays.

Limerick Libraries are once again inviting children of all ages to dive into the joy of reading with the Summer Stars Reading Programme.

This year’s programme was launched in Askeaton Library on Thursday 18th June, 2026 with a special performance by Knight for Hire attended by the pupils of Scoil Naomh Muire Eas Géitine.

Summer Stars is a free national programme that encourages children to read for fun during the school holidays.  Every child can take part and enjoy reading books, audiobooks, picture books, graphic novels, whatever they like to read, at their own pace.

Children can sign up while visiting any one of Limerick Libraries’ 16 branches or the Mobile Library.  A special Summer Stars collection is also available on BorrowBox, the free library app offering eBooks and audiobooks to all library members.

Summer Stars is the free national reading programme for children that takes place in all public libraries and online each summer and runs from June 2 up to August 31, 2026.

All children throughout the country are invited to join the adventure and to enjoy the fun and pleasure of reading and writing over the summer. Summer Stars is non-competitive and every child who reads even one book/e-book is regarded as having completed the programme – and it’s all completely free!

Membership of all public libraries is free for everyone of all ages. People can join online or in person. Visit the Libraries Ireland website to find out more.
