The six locations have been revealed for the various events of the 37th Eva International exhibition

Eva International is Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art. Every two years Eva International works with guest curators to create a 12-week programme of exhibitions and events that engage with the people and city of Limerick. Since its foundation, Eva International has worked with some of the world’s leading artists and curators, bringing outstanding exhibitions to audiences on the west coast of Ireland. Artists’ projects are selected through an international open, invited calls for proposals and exhibitions take place in both gallery and non-gallery spaces.

The city venues will play host to work of 57 artists chosen for the exhibition, curated by Koyo Kouoh. The upcoming Eva International exhibition, named ‘Still the Barbarians’, is set to open on April 16 and run until July 17.

The six selected spots are Limerick City Gallery of Art, The Hunt Museum, Cleeve’s Condensed Milk Factory, The Sailors’ Home, King John’s Castle and Mother Macs on High Street.

A number of performances will take place in April, at other locations. Ormston House is to present Murder Machine curated by Christine Eyene, featuring Ceara Conway, George Hallett, Linda O’Keeffe, The Otolith Group and Rusangano Family. Murder Machine is an interactive display and series of monthly public events and interventions.

Please join us at the launch of the project on Saturday 16 April from 12pm to 2pm for a coffee event with canteen, a curatorial tour with Christine Eyene, and a performance by Ceara Conway produced by DJ Deviant. Ms Kouoh said the venues were chosen “for their historical relevance to both EVA International and Limerick city”.

“Limerick City Gallery of Art has long been the home of EVA in many ways and is the perfect site for the artists that will be shown there. St John’s Castle and The Hunt Museum are both well established attractions, while Cleeve’s Condensed Milk Factory and The Sailor’s Home are being repurposed as exhibition spaces.

Be a part of Liam Gillick’s And then… a spoken word film festival, bring a movie in your head, share the plot. Mother Macs is the place to go every night during the opening weekend and every Thursday during EVA International.

Curator Koyo Kouoh commented on the location of the spoken word film festival, “Mother Macs is the perfect venue for Liam Gillick’s project And Then… which is an open mic spoken word film festival. It is really exciting to see all the venues coming to life this week with artworks being installed.”
