Limerick is set to be the backdrop for Hollywood again as filming of ‘4 Kids Walk Into a Bank’, starring Liam Neeson, resumes this Wednesday, January 8

Filming of the movie, an adaptation of the acclaimed comic book by Matthew Rosenberg and Tyler Boss, began last month and transformed parts of Limerick into 1990s USA.

The city streets were transformed with period vehicles, retro shopfronts, and American-style street features that drew the attention of locals as the production highlighted Limerick and the midwest’s reputation as a hub for international filmmaking.

Directed by Frankie Shaw and produced by Robbers Productions DAC in collaboration with Wild Atlantic Pictures, the production highlights Limerick as a prime destination for international filmmaking and welcomes one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Liam Neeson who starred in Taken, Schindler’s List, and Michael Collins.

Filming this week will take place on O’Sullivan’s Place and Newenham Street/Jesuit Lane and Limerick City and County Council has advised that these roads will be closed from 12:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with diversions in place throughout the day. Access for emergency service vehicles will remain unaffected.

Neeson plays Danny, a former bank robber devoted to his teenage granddaughter Paige. When Paige discovers Danny’s old gang is coercing him into one last heist, she teams up with her three best friends to save him by robbing the bank themselves. It is believed Paige will be played by Talia Ryder (Never Rarely Sometimes Always), with co-stars Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl), Jack Dylan Grazer (It), and Deacon Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon’s son.

This major production has not only brought a taste of Hollywood to Limerick but also reinforced the city’s appeal as a prime location for filmmakers. The end of 2024 also saw the filming of feature film, ‘One Night Only’ at the iconic former Royal Theatre on Cecil Street featuring Bridgerton star Calam Lynch, the projects cement Limerick’s place in Ireland as a hub for film production and an incredible achievement for Film in Limerick.

The announcement by Limerick City and County Council said, “Limerick City and County Council wish to advise motorists and road users that Robbers Production film crew for the filming of the movie ‘4 kids walk into a bank’ will take place on O’Sullivans Place and Newenham Street/Jesuit Lane, Limerick City on Wednesday 8th January 2025.
