Now in its third year, the fundraiser has become a key date in the local sporting and charitable calendar, attracting more than 300 attendees annually with the funds raised through the event split evenly between UL Bohs and Down Syndrome Limerick.

Michelle Coughlan, Chairperson of Down Syndrome Limerick, says the support from UL Bohs goes a long way for the service. She said, “ It has been a wonderful partnership. We have funded a personal development programme for adults with Down Syndrome from the funds raised in 2024 and 2025. And we plan to do that in 2026, which is very exciting, because this wasn’t possible before, I’ll be honest.

She added, “ It’s a huge development for us and. The more events like this that we can do, the more we can advance our adult education.”

The partnership between DSL and UL Bohemian RFC has supported vital literacy, reading and writing programmes for adults with Down syndrome, helping participants to maintain essential life skills into adulthood.

The event is hosted by Barry Murphy, musician with Hermitage Green and former Munster Rugby player, with a special guest panel of Dave Kilcoyne, Lynn Cantwell, Jerry Flannery and JJ Hanrahan.

Michelle explained, “This is very meaningful for adults with Down Syndrome because adults with Down Syndrome need constant support around literacy; reading and writing, and it is one of those skills that if they maintain it, then they will continue to have that skill. But if they don’t maintain these skills into their adulthood, then, effectively, they can lose them. So we want to obviously maintain these skills through their adulthood, and the adult education that we provide supports them in this.”

The event also provides opportunities for DSL members to take part on the day, meeting guests and enjoying the unique atmosphere, with Michelle saying, “ The breakfast at the Castletroy Park Hotel is just fabulous. There is a wonderful buzz. Over 300 people attend every year. We will have a number of our adults there meeting and greeting, and obviously enjoying the rugby banter and rugby atmosphere.Having some Munster players show up on the day is always a huge bonus!”
