Rivalries were set aside when Limerick’s Cian Lynch and Tipperary’s Barry Hogan took part in the 65km Hurling Camino for the Dillon Quirke Foundation

65km Hurling Camino brings Limerick and Tipperary together for Dillon Quirke Foundation
The first leg began at 8 am from the UniJobs headquarters at Riverpoint in Limerick before finishing at Sean Treacy’s GAA club in County Tipperary, with the walkers then making their way to Semple Stadium.

A 65km ‘hurling camino’ organised by UniJobs has seen inter-county rivalries set aside when Limerick’s Cian Lynch and Tipperary’s Barry Hogan joined together in aid of the Dillon Quirke Foundation.

Staff from Limerick-based UniJobs, along with the inter-county hurling stars are making their way from Limerick City to Semple Stadium in Thurles this week to raise funds for the foundation.

The team travel the R503 route through Newport from Limerick to Thurles, a road travelled by many generations of supporters from both counties going to TUS Gaelic Grounds or Semple Stadium.

The first leg began at 8 am from the UniJobs headquarters at Riverpoint in Limerick before finishing at Sean Treacy’s GAA club in County Tipperary, with the walkers then making their way to Semple Stadium.

Dillon Quirke was just 24 years old when he collapsed and died in August 2022 while playing the sport he loved. His life was cut short by Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. Dillon was a much-loved son, brother, friend, and neighbour, and in their grief, his family set up the Foundation in Dillon’s name to raise awareness and protect other young people and their families from the devastation of SADS.

Staff from Limerick-based UniJobs, along with the inter-county hurling stars are making their way from Limerick City to Semple Stadium in Thurles this week to raise funds for the foundation.

Ahead of the fundraiser, Niall Quinn, former Irish International Soccer Player and Dillon Quirke Foundation Chairperson, said, “ Our work isn’t done until every young sports person gets screened, and this message isn’t just to the sports people or to the people who are good enough to go out and have fundraising events like Unijobs.

“This is also a message to parents, too, that, um, it’s best to be safe and have your children screened, and Dillon Quirke Foundation will do everything we can.”
