7th annual Limerick Garden Festival brings Expert talks, Gardening Masterclasses, and Demonstrations to the Milk Market on Sunday, June 21

On Sunday, June 21, the Milk Market will be transformed again into Limerick Garden Festival with Garden, Plant, Craft & food stalls from all over Ireland.

The festival, now in its 7th year, will bring all-day expert talks, gardening masterclasses, demonstrations, entertainment for young and old, music and of course great food to the iconic Limerick market.

Owner of the popular Coosheen Garden in Cork, plantswoman Hester Forde – who regularly speaks all over Ireland, and also in the UK, Germany, and recently in America – is joining the festival for the first time.

Hester said, “I am delighted to be part of Limerick Garden Festival this year – what a great event in such a strong gardening county with exciting gardens of its own. On the day, I’ll be speaking about planting and layering in containers and I am looking forward to doing this in a real hands-on way that people can follow and repeat at home.”

The stage will this year feature gardening and cookery again this year upstairs. The area of organic gardening will be thoroughly discussed by Master Organic Gardener Jim Cronin at 1 pm also running a masterclass.

On the ornamental side, international gardener Hester Forde of Coosheen Garden in Cork will take the lead this year from 11.15 am.

Popular Chef Tom Flavin is back with a cookery demonstration and tasting at 3 pm. The day’s schedule will be completed by Alison Murphy of Sile Farm & Nursery, Luke Kelly of Vision Solar and stage host Michelle Dirks. After a musical break, the stage will also see a panel discussion with Jim McNamara, Jim Cronin and Tom Flavin.

 “The 7th Limerick Garden Festival will celebrate the diversity of the gardening hobby with regional and national expertise and stalls here at the iconic Milk Market,” Said Market manager David Fitzgerald.

Festival manager Carmen Cronin added, “We are always innovating with this festival so that visitors can enjoy the many exciting displays and demos this year in addition to our stage talks – all under the cover of the Market.”

The festival will also see a strong arts element; artist Carmel Doherty will be showing her wire sculpture making in action and having a display of wire sculptures, and Nayana Sandur will be on-site with her botanical arts.

Chef Tom Flavin, Chairman of the Limerick Food Group said, “Having food at a garden festival is a great addition that we are delighted to support. It’s a pleasure to be involved myself and I am looking forward to showcasing the use of organic, local and fresh seasonal produce as well as proteins from local suppliers linked to the Milk Market in my cookery demonstration.”

There will be a facepainter, and adults and children will enjoy the many treats and stalls with displays like the Limerick beekeepers and Icicle Tricycle. The festival will feature an impressive plant, garden, craft & food market with traders from all over Ireland like Shady Plants, Individual Plant Nursery and Sile Farm & Nursery and featuring many from Limerick city and county including Etna Plants, Room Outdoors and Wild Fig Foods & Plants. Limerick Garden Festival will be held on Sunday, June 21 at the Milk Market, Limerick with admission only €8 per adults and children going free.

Tickets can already be purchased online at an early bird price of only €6 per adult.

Parking is of course free all around the city and also at the Potato Market for visitors of the festival. The festival is proudly supported by D&M Garden Centre, IOMST, Limerick City and County Council, the Mayoral Fund, Limerick Food Group, Limerick City Partnership, Limerick Post, Vision Solar, and the festival supports Limerick Mental Health Association.
