A Limerick Fairytale will tell the story of Limerick’s latest princess, Limerella, in a charming new picture book

Gráinne O’Brien wrote to book hoping its readers will find a love of reading.

A new children’s book, A Limerick Fairytale written by a county Clare native and illustrated by a Kilkenny-based artist will tell the tale of Limerick’s newest princess.

“Once upon a time, there was a prince who wanted to live a fairytale life. The first thing he needed was a princess, so he could have his happily ever after.

Limerella goes along to Prince Hugo’s ball mainly to enjoy the sandwiches. The prince is sure she’s the love of his life. But is Limerella really the princess type?”

Celebrating Limerick, and featuring Curraghchase, Adare Manor, The Shannon, King John’s Castle, The Ballyhoura Mountains, UL, O’Mahony’s Bookshop, Belltable, The Milk Market, and Thomond Park, A Limerick Fairytale is a hilarious new picture book adventure about love and lost shoes.

Speaking with Joe Nash on Limerick Live 95, the author explained how the name ‘Limerella’ “began as a joke” but said the publishing company loved the name.

She also told Joe Nash that she hopes the book will inspire children to get them “to fall in love with reading” when they come into the bookshop.

Gráinne O’Brien has been the children’s buyer for O’Mahony’s Booksellers for almost a decade. She is the founder of Rontu Literary Service, which supports aspiring children’s writers, and one of the founders of Silver Apples, an online literary magazine. Gráinne is a County Clare native and lives in Limerick with her husband and two cats.

Lena Stawowy is an illustrator, character designer and constant doodler who lives in beautiful Kilkenny, this is her first book.
