The theme “A More Fun Limerick” announced by Limerick City and County Council aims to highlight the vibrant and playful spirit of Limerick, promising a festival filled with joy, creativity, and community engagement with the festival taking place from March 15 to 17 with the St Patrick’s Day Parade making its way through the city on Monday, March 17.

“A More Fun Limerick” features events that will bring smiles to faces of all ages with parades, street performances, family-friendly activities, and cultural shows on offer, transforming the city and county into a hub of celebration.

Speaking about this year’s festival, Mayor of Limerick, John Moran said the theme “perfectly captures the essence” of Limerick’s community,  noting the council’s “key ambition” to deliver more for Limerick, he said, “And that includes having more fun, so I am incredibly excited about this year’s St. Patrick’s Festival theme.”

The  53rd Limerick International Band Championship will take place on Sunday, 16 March, while the traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Monday, 17 March. The public are invited to enjoy a musical Jamboree at Arthur’s Quay Park following the International Band Championship parade on the Sunday.

The vibrant and colourful St. Patrick’s Day parade will follow the same route as 2024, making it’s way down O’Connell Street before moving on to Henry Street and ending at Arthur’s Quay Park. The International Band Championship will also follow the same route as last year but the start point has moved to the Junction of O’Connell Street and Barrington Street. The Universal access area for both parades is at The Crescent, O’Connell Street.

Details of a full programme of events across the St. Patrick’s Festival weekend will be revealed in the coming weeks, and groups interested in participating in the St Patrick’s Day Parade are invited to register their interest now.

Limerick City and County Council’s Festival and Events Officer, Eugene Crimmins noted the council is making a “call out to all companies, clubs, groups and organisations”. He said, “We are eager to see your creativity adding to the excitement and fun of this year’s St. Patrick’s Festival. ‘A More Fun Limerick’ is all about bringing joy to everyone, and we can’t wait to share the full line-up of events.”
