A Viennese Prom at Milk Market for two nights on Thurs 28 & Fri 29 May

Following the success of the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s Carmen last year, the ICO presents A Viennese Prom at Milk Market for two nights only on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 May @ 8pm.

This orchestral extravaganza combines the elegance of Vienna with the rousing sound of the Irish Chamber Orchestra.  Eminent German conductor, Jochen Rieder takes the baton for this sumptuous Strauss affair.  Rieder regularly conducts the great Jonas Kaufmann, so Rieder’s appearance with the ICO at Limerick’s Milk Market is much anticipated.

The orchestra will be joined by sparkling German coloratura soprano Gloria Rehm, for a delectable mix of Strauss Viennese waltzes, polkas and song which are as fresh today as they were, then.   Gloria is one of Germany’s young bright lights having won the prestigious Richard Strauss Competition as well as being nominated as Young Singer of the Year in 2012 and again in 2014.

Adding style and panache to the evening are dancers from Ballet Ireland in glorious costumes of the period.  From The Blue Danube to Tales from the Vienna Woods to Die Fledermaus, there is something here for everyone!   Liz Nolan from RTE Lyric fm will host this colourful affair.

We are delighted to bring a project of this magnitude to the heart of Limerick City.  As with Carmen last year, the Milk Market provides a unique and relaxed setting where people can enjoy a glass of wine, good company and ambience.  Strauss has universal popularity and we look forward to seeing the people of Limerick at our Prom concerts” says ICO CEO Gerry Keenan.

The ICO’s Viennese Prom features best loved works by Johann Strauss and will enchant audiences over two nights by twilight, in a fully-seated arena at the Milk Market.  Celebrate the music of one of the best-loved classical composers with two stunning evenings of music, laughter and dance.  Tickets are already moving on 061-331549 or here.

The UL-based Irish Chamber Orchestra is funded by The Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.  See here.

It’s on for two nights only, Thursday 28 & Friday 29 May at The Milk Market, Limerick @ 8pm, with tickets at €25, €20 and €10 students.
