Mayor wishes Limerick Paralympian Aaron Tier well at Rio Games

Mayor Kieran O’Hanlon wishing 21-year-old Aaron Tier from Corbally the best of luck ahead of the Paralympics in Rio.

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon is wishing 21-year-old footballer Aaron Tier all the best in the upcoming Rio Paralympic Games.

“On behalf of the people of Limerick, I want to wish Aaron every success in the games.  He has trained very hard and consistently for years and now his dream is coming true”, the Mayor said.

“Aaron has not let his life be defined by Cerebral Palsy.  It is just one part of him.  His determination and drive has led him to fulfil his dreams and the upcoming chance of a lifetime in Rio for the Paralympic Games.”

“It is a great honour to put on the green jersey and represent your country and you should be very proud of your achievements”, the Mayor added.

Aaron is part of the Football 7–a-side squad at the Paralympics.  Ireland will be playing Ukraine, Brazil and Great Britain.

The 21-year-old said, “I’m really looking forward to stepping onto the pitch in Rio.  Pulling on the green jersey of Ireland and representing your country is the pinnacle of sporting achievement.  Ireland is the only country in the Top 10 that are amateur.  We have nothing to lose in Rio and we are going to give it our best”.

Aaron currently plays club football for his local team, Star Rovers. Capped more than 15 times for his country, he plays centre forward for Ireland and has scored six goals to date.

He has previously represented Ireland at the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF) pre-Paralympic tournament in Salou, Spain.

Aaron is currently studying Business Studies and Sports Management in Limerick Institute of Technology.
