ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services has launched a new series of Limerick-made charity Christmas cards. The Adapt Christmas cards are based on the theme of ‘home’, as ADAPT will house women and children forced to leave their homes due to domestic abuse this Christmas.

Based in Rosbrien, ADAPT is a support service for women survivors of domestic abuse and their children. ADAPT provides services including emergency refuge accommodation; 24-hour helpline support; outreach services; and services for children including play therapy.

ADAPT Christmas cards

This is the design artist Sandra Sheehan designed for the ADAPT Christmas cards fundraiser.

The charity’s new series of Christmas cards features four festive images by acclaimed Irish artists: Limerick children’s picture book author and illustrator AnnMarie McCarthy, Cork-based mixed media artist Marian Sheehan, Limerick artist Sandra Sheehan and Cork-based Jennifer O’Connor.

The artists were inspired by the theme of ‘home’. Artist Sandra Sheehan, who works with ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services, chose a beloved teddy bear for her card.

“In my experience, many children have a toy that is dear to them, that brings them comfort and that helps make them feel safe,” she explains. “In crisis situations when women and children have to leave home because of domestic abuse, these precious possessions are often left behind, adding to the child’s anxiety and distress. This is why I chose the image of the teddy bear to represent the theme of ‘home’ in relation to ADAPT. Especially at Christmas the staff try and make the refuge as welcoming as possible and no child is left without this small comfort.”

ADAPT’s charity Christmas cards are on sale now, with 8 cards costing €6.95. 100% of the purchase price will go to fund services provided by ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services.

The ADAPT Christmas cards are available from the ADAPT Charity Shop on Sarsfield Street, Limerick, and outlets around Limerick City and County. For outlet details, or if you would like to stock ADAPT’s Christmas cards, contact Lorraine Gallagher on 061-412354 or email [email protected]
