New ADAPT Shop Open in Limerick City

The ADAPT shop silently cropped up on 6 Sarsfield St next to Hook & Ladder three weeks ago, and has been drawing customers ever since. Despite the fact that it generally has the flair of an antiques shop, ADAPT Shop is a charity shop in support of ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services.

“The refuge is located in Rosbrien, and it caters for women who experienced domestic abuse and their children,” said ADAPT’s Laura Bohan, who’s managing the shop. “The shop raises funds for our services and takes donations.”

What makes the shop different from other charity shops, is that it is aimed at not only raising funds for ADAPT, but also at creating a community space, inviting people to drop by, hang out and browse some of the quality pieces of furniture and clothes up for sale. Moreover, the gallery style shop creates a light, airy space, and offers an array of often vintage style clothing that is colour blocked rather than sorted by size, and offers everything from women’s clothing to children’s clothing and men’s apparel.

The lower floor on the other hand serves as a showroom for furniture on sale and the book nook. For those customers who are looking for something specific, but can’t quite find their perfect match among the wares in stock, the shop offers a request book, where people can leave their names, number and what exactly they’re looking for. Additionally a delivery service is also offered, for just 10€ bought furniture is delivered from the shop to the new owner’s home.

The ADAPT shop also takes donations, and the drop off could not be simpler, with a taxi rank outside, the donor doesn’t even have to get out of their car, as the staff will come out and collect the donations. Similarly to the delivery service, there is also a pick-up service available for donations.

In addition the staff will also discreetly provide information on services, if needs be. The ADAPT shop is, most simply put, the heart of the charity in the city, that brings the service out from behind closed doors and makes it that bit more accessible to the public.
