Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort to seek planning permission from Limerick County Council to refurbish and upgrade the hotel and resort facilities, it is confirmed.  The proposal will include a new bedroom wing of 40 bedrooms and a ballroom with a capacity for 350 patrons, which will be connected to the 1989 hotel extension.

The Golf Clubhouse will also be refurbished and modernised.  Support facilities such as car parks, plant and maintenance centres and upgraded resort activities are also proposed.  Refurbishment and development is expected to take 18 months.

Speaking today, General Manager of Adare Manor & Golf Resort, Ms. Anita Higgins, said: “The entire team at Adare Manor take great pride in its renowned award winning service and we are delighted with the plans to upgrade and refurbish the resort.  This will ensure that this five star property maintains its world renowned status.  We are very fortunate to have the support of a great local family who recognises the role the resort plays in the local community. Great care and attention has been taken in drawing up the proposed plans respectfully and recognising the architectural beauty of this 19th century Manor”.

The Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort has been part of the Adare community for over 27 years. Its modern day use maintains the legacy of the Earls of Dunraven, custodians of the demesne for over 300 years.  Following an extensive economic, physical and operational review of the Manor and Demesne, the need to modernise the facilities of the hotel and resort were identified.

Expansion of the facilities to include additional accommodation, ballroom and leisure facilities is, however, essential to the long-term viability of the resort.  It is estimated that the resort contributes in excess of c. €5 million to the local economy each year.  The realisation of these plans will underpin and expand existing employment, both during and after construction, and it is envisaged that the newly refurbished property will increase visitor numbers to County Limerick and the Shannon region.

To ensure that this five star property maintains its world renowned status, the key elements of the development will include a new bedroom wing to be constructed to the west of the existing modern hotel extension (1989) at the Manor house, a ballroom constructed to the north of the existing (1989) extension, (which will be clad in limestone and be of such architectural detail as to complement the 19thcentury Manor House) the refurbishment of the Manor, (which will include an upgrade and repair of internal finishes and furniture; repairs to the structure and fabric, stonework and windows; installation of new mechanical, electrical and civil services.

Also included will be an upgrade the façade of the golf clubhouse, provide weathering protection to the east terrace and a new clubhouse entrance with the adjacent 19th century carriage house refurbished and a sense of its original setting regained.

Refurbishment and development is expected to take 18 months.  It will be necessary to close the facilities for the duration of the works.

Key elements of the development at the Demesne, include: an upgrade to the existing main entrance of the Adare Manor resort to a style in keeping with the architecture of the demesne, the provision of a separate support entrance from the N21 for staff and deliveries on the southwest boundary, refurbished and sympathetically screened car parks laid out in the woodland belt adjacent to the Manor.  The tree belt about the Manor to be strengthened with new screen planting and a sympathetic landscape design to enhance the wider historic demesne.

Buildings of historical merit, such as the rent house, folly, lantern lodge, and Boulabally House will be secured, restored and protected.
