Affordable Housing Scheme launched in Limerick includes new development of 25 homes

Limerick City and County Council, in partnership with Formation Homes, has launched an affordable home purchase scheme for private buyers at Brú na Gruadán, Castletroy

The Brú na Gruadán affordable housing scheme is a superb new development of 25 homes consisting of three-bedroom duplexes and four-bedroom houses with prices starting from €262,500 for a three-bedroom duplex, and from €290,000 for a four-bedroom house.

The affordable home purchase scheme is generally aimed at first-time buyers and fresh start applicants and helps people on moderate incomes to buy new homes at reduced prices. Through this scheme, Limerick City and County Council will take a percentage equity share (share of the ownership) in the home. Potential applicants looking to buy a home in Castletroy are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the eligibility criteria and the application process.

Welcoming the launch of this affordable housing scheme at Brú na Gruadán, the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Francis Foley said:

“Limerick City and County Council is delighted to reach this important milestone, in what will be the first affordable housing scheme for Limerick under Housing for All. This scheme will provide much needed affordable homes in Castletroy for first time buyers and fresh start applicants”.

Caroline Curley, Director of Housing with Limerick City and County Council said further schemes are in the pipeline:

“This scheme is one of a number of affordable housing schemes which will be delivered by the Council over the next 2 years. These affordable housing schemes will increase the number of high quality affordable homes in Limerick, meeting the growing demand for different types of housing across the city and county.”

Construction Director of Formation Homes, Sean O’ Brien, said:

“Formation Homes Ltd. are committed to continually raising the standard of affordable housing and helping first time buyers gain access to the property market with affordable, sustainable and secure homes”.

The online application portal for those interested in purchasing one of these affordable homes will open for applications on Tuesday 20th June 2023 at 12pm.
