Africa Day 2013 enjoyed the sights and sounds of its African communities with events to celebrate Africa Day. See all the highlights here.

Africa & Ireland in Harmony Concert at St. Mary’s Cathedral was one of the exciting highlights that brought together an incredible melting pot of talent from Africa and Ireland for a free gala concert. The fun continued with a Limerick Sixes Sportsfest at Crescent College Dooradoyle with an adult soccer world cup, children’s football blitz, face painting, arts, drumming workshops, dancers and musicians – something for all the family! The celebrations culminated later that day with music and family fun in Limerick City Hall with an African theme and flavour. Local primary schools had their posters on display with prizes for their poster competition being presented by the Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Gerry McLoughlin.
Africa Day  is an initiative of the African Union, which celebrates African diversity and success and the cultural and economic potential of the continent. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Africa Day and African Unity and in Ireland, the celebration events are supported by Irish Aid.

Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
