Treaty United FC announce the signings of three international players with Amelia Freeman, Caroline Penner, and Fiona Doherty coming from England and USA
Treaty United FC have announced the signings of two international players with the highly-rated defender Amelia Freeman coming from England and USA forward Caroline Penner as well as American midfielder Fiona Doherty ahead of the remainder of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division season.
19-year-old Freeman, one of the most promising young defenders to emerge through the English pathway, arrives at the Markets Field after spending the past season with Newcastle United Women, where she progressed through the club’s Professional Game Academy and earned her senior debut after impressing with the club’s Under-21 side.
Freeman was also included in every Newcastle United Women’s Subway League Cup matchday squad and made an appearance in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup 3rd Round for the Magpies.

Before joining Newcastle United, Freeman developed at Sunderland before making the move to Manchester United’s academy ahead of the 2023/2024 season. Freeman also spent time with Cheadle Town as she continued her progression in the game. Her development across three highly respected environments has seen her gain valuable experience at academy and senior level despite her young age.
Freeman also boasts international experience on her CV. The midfielder received a number of caps for England, representing the Lionesses at under-16 level.
Penner joins the club following an outstanding collegiate career with Seattle University in the US, where she established herself as one of the leading attacking players in the NCAA.
During her four seasons with the Redhawks, the Olympia, Washington native scored 37 goals and registered 11 assists, earning a host of individual honours including Freshman All-WAC, two Second Team All-WAC selections, First Team All-WAC, All-Pacific Region First Team and, in her senior year, West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-WCC.
A dynamic and clinical forward, Penner finished her final collegiate season with 17 goals and six assists, ranking among the nation’s top scorers while helping Seattle University to one of the most successful campaigns in the programme’s Division 1 history.
Now making the move to Ireland, Caroline brings pace, creativity and an eye for goal to Laurie Ryan’s squad as Treaty United continue to strengthen for the second half of the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division season.
American midfielder Fiona Doherty joins the club following a spell with Cork City FC Women, where she featured regularly after arriving in Ireland in March 2026. A graduate of the University of Vermont, Doherty gained professional experience in Greece with Panathinaikos before making the move to the League of Ireland.
Since joining Cork City, the midfielder made 12 appearances across all
competitions, scoring twice in 990 minutes of action. She featured eight times
in the Women’s Premier Division and three times in the All-Island Cup for the side.
