This year’ Rose of Tralee winner, Meath medical student Elysha Brennan  today launched The Day of HOPE for the Hope Foundation. The Annual National Day of HOPE, kindly supported by Butlers Chocolate, takes place across the country on Thursday 8th October. Now in its 5th year, the Day of HOPE raises much needed funds for the street and slum children of Kolkata, India.

HOPE is encouraging people to buy, sell and eat HOPE Butlers Chocolate Truffle bars and make a difference to a child’s life.

Each bar costs €2 and proceeds raised will go directly to the children in Kolkata. The money will be spent on healthcare in the HOPE hospital and education through HOPE’s 40 coaching centres as well as towards other vital services provided for the children who are forced to live on the streets and in the slums.

Speaking at the launch, Elysha said ‘like the wonderful reigning Rose’s before me I am delighted to get involved with HOPE and I am very much looking forward to seeing the work of HOPE firsthand during my visit to Calcutta this October. The money from just one bar can provide a lifesaving vaccine to a child.  I would encourage everyone to buy a chocolate bar and make a difference to a child’s life on the 8th October’

This year there are over 60 Transition year students from Limerick city and county (along with some Cork county) who are fundraising for the Hope projects and they will be travelling to Calcutta to visit the children whose lives they have helped change in March 2016. The trip is part of the Hope Foundation’s Transition Year Immersion programme and the Limerick schools taking part are Gaelcholaiste Luimnigh, Castletroy College, St Mary’s Charleville, Scoil Pol Kilfinane, Desmond College Newcastlewest, Hazelwood College Dromcollogher,  Colaiste Ide agus Iosef in Abbeyfeale, and Scoil Mhuire Kanturk. These students will be out on the streets selling Butlers bars for the Hope projects and we are encouraging everyone to support these fantastic young people in our community.    

HOPE are also looking for clubs, schools, businesses and individuals around the country to get involved on the day. To volunteer to sell the HOPE Butlers Chocolate Bars on Thursday October 8th.
