Stars shine at youth factor, Limerick Youth Service’s annual variety show

Dancing troupes, singers, poets, and musicians took to the stage at LIT’s Millennium Theatre this past week for Limerick Youth Service’s annual variety show, the Youth Factor.

The event, which continues to grow in popularity, saw young acts showcase their talent in categories that included dance, performance, song and music, in front of a very lively crowd!

After nearly three hours of entertainment the judging panel of Julieann Hennelly, Ciara Meade and Emily O’Shaughnessy were faced with the difficult task of choosing the winners.

As the white smoke billowed from their (the judges) deliberation chamber the young people and their families finally learned their fate!

Eve & Rachel, Granagh Youth Club, won first prize in the highly competitive Senior Song/Group category with Sophie & Kathy from Cappamore Youth Group winning the Junior award with their unique take on Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love.

King’s Island Youth Club with Maurice Walsh, Limerick Youth Service

King’s Island Youth Club wowed the judges with their high octane dance act as they won the Junior Performance category with Chittyma from LYS’ Diversity & Youth Group taking the Senior crown.

In the solo song category, St. Patrick’s Youth Club’s Amelia took first prize in the junior section with Kayleigh from Granagh Youth Club winning the senior crown with her cover of Kodaline’s All I Want.

One of the loudest cheers of the afternoon was reserved for Diana & Maria from LYS’ Diversity & Youth Group who won the Senior Dance award with Fedamore Youth Club winning the Junior Dance category.

Clonlara Youth Club was honoured with an award for Overall Achievement, Group Work & Preparation Award for their excellent dance routine.

Away from the stage the audience also got in on the act as youth clubs/groups waved their banners in support of their friends, with the banner from Cappamore Youth Group winning.

Speaking to a packed auditorium, Maurice Walsh, LYS’ Youth Work Manager, paid tribute to the young people as well as to all who made this year’s Youth Factor possible.

Maurice said, ‘The talent on show this afternoon was amazing with great singers and dancers, you displayed great courage to perform in front of your peers, which can often be very difficult.’

I’d also like to thank the volunteers who have supported you and we look forward to seeing you again next year.’ 

Maurice also thanked the staff at the Millennium Theatre and the youth workers who went above and beyond in making the event such a success.
