Athlunkard Boat Club has set up an exciting fundraiser as they are getting ready to fully reopen their club after the pandemic. Funds are being raised for the upkeep of the club and also for new equipment.

By donating €20 to the raffle on the club’s Go Fund Me fundraiser, you can be in with a chance of naming their new Wintech double boat! Add your chosen boat name and contact details in the comments and the name you have chosen could be picked out at random.

The pandemic has had a huge impact on sporting clubs over the last two years, especially on fundraising abilities.

Club member Anna commented, “Athlunkard Boat Club would not be where it is today without the generosity and support of you all. Due to the pandemic, as with many other clubs around the country, Athlunkard Boat Club has been affected financially. Not being able to rely on our usual method of fundraising, including backpacking and table quizzes so we are heavily relying on this Athlunkard boat club fundraiser and would really appreciate your support.”

As the club prepares to re-open, they will be welcoming new members.

Anna added, “To support this growth, our focus needs to change to new ways of raising funds. The club aims to raise €5000, with €800 in donations already raised. The money raised will go towards new equipment and running costs to support new and existing members in the club.”

Athlunkard Boat Club was set up in 1898 on the O’Dwyer Bridge outside Limerick city by a group of boys in the parish. Today, it is a competitive boating club here in Limerick, with over 40 junior members, both boys and girls, and 30 senior members. The clubhouse was built in 1925 and it is still used by athletes today.
