Her Sport has announced Limerick’s Ava Crean as the recipient of the Her Sport Personality of the Year Award.

The award caps off an incredible year for the endurance runner who, following her first ever marathon in Manchester earlier in 2025 went on to be the first woman to cross the finish line in both theRegenaron Great Limerick Run and the Dublin Marathon.

Her Sport shared the news, saying, “In a year full of remarkable stories, Ava Crean’s stood apart. At just 19 years old, she became the Irish National Women’s Marathon Champion, crossing the line at the Dublin Marathon as first Irish woman home in 2:34:12 – a nine-minute personal best that placed her sixth overall and 13th on the Irish all-time list.

“What makes it extraordinary? She only began competitive running in April 2025. Her first marathon in Manchester was meant to be a cautious debut. She ran 2:49. By Dublin, with just two marathons behind her, she raced with the composure and intelligence of a seasoned elite.”

The group says that Ava’s rise to national recognition “captured imaginations across the country – a once-in-a-generation story that’s only just beginning”.

Back 2 Boston running club shared their pride on social media, saying, “Well done Ava Crean, Her Sport Personality of the year. You did Back 2 Boston, Limerick and yourself Proud. You spoke so well, which showed your personality. Such a great event in The Helix showcasing some of the top sportswomen in the country.”
