Friday, January 18th, 2019 saw the Ballyneety Community Development Association (BCDA) held a soft launch of their latest two initiatives: an indoor community hub and all-weather astroturf pitch. The Ballyneety Community Development Association was established in 2016 to plan and execute defined initiatives for the benefit of the Ballyneety community. The two facilities, located on the grounds of Ballyneety Golf Club, Co. Limerick are intended for use by members of the Ballyneety community and surrounding vicinity, in a bid to grow, nurture and maintain a strong community spirit.

The 1,500sqft indoor facility is home to office hot desk spaces, a meeting room, kitchen area and a large multipurpose room. It will cater for meetings, social activities and sports activities. The state of the art, all-weather astroturf pitch, located just metres from the community hub, will see sport enthusiasts display their skills.

An encouraging number of community members and representatives from Ballyhoura Development Board and the Limerick City & County Council attended on the evening, with everyone in agreement that the facilities had far exceeded expectations. The excitement and enthusiasm was infectious.

The walking track, which opened in May 2017 will bring the total number of initiatives implemented by the BCDA to three. This was made possible by a very generous private donation, support from the Ballyhoura Development CLG, with funding under the Leader Programme 2018 and numerous hours of voluntary work.

While the facilities are nearing completion, the journey is just commencing in terms of fundraising. A ‘Go Fund Me’ page has been set up to enable the final fit out of the facilities, and all donations are gratefully appreciated https://www.gofundme.com/ballyneety-community-indoor-centre-amp-pitch-fit-out?sharetype=teams&member=1473082&rcid=r01-154747493136-93d861e727c94ea1&pc=ot_co_campmgmt_w

The facilities are expected to be officially open for use by the end of March 2019. The BCDA welcomes all local support and looks forward to seeing the community spirit of Ballyneety grow from strength to strength.
