Barking Mad Virtual Quiz fundraises for Limerick Animal Welfare

Barking Mad is holding a virtual quiz night in aid of Limerick Animal welfare.

Barking Mad Virtual Quiz fundraises for Limerick Animal Welfare

An online quiz will take place on Sunday, May 31 by utilising a combination of the latest in streaming technology for quiz streaming and Google Forms for answer submission with the aim of raising significant funds for Limerick Animal Welfare. This is a family-friendly quiz that everyone can enjoy.

This is designed as a household quiz where everyone within a household can take part together, allowing for family fun during what have been some bleak times lately. A team can stream the quiz on their laptop or handheld devices from our dedicated quiz website and use Google Forms to submit their answers for each round. People are encouraged  to take part in the quiz with their friends as part of the team by using communication tools such as Zoom, Skype, Facebook group chat, or WhatsApp group chat. This also allows people to interact with their friends in a very fun way, while practicing social distancing. It also allows for those who have been cocooning to continue to do so while engaging with their friends online for this fun event, some of whom they may not have seen since before the Covid-19 restrictions began.

Communication tools such as Zoom and Skype have made it so effortless to stay connected with one another during Covid-19, which is of paramount importance for our mental health. While our usual social outlets where these forms of events would have usually been held remain closed (quite likely until late August) and while it will be quite sometime before a level of normality of which we were previously used to, resumes, events such as the Barking Mad Virtual quiz will fill that gap and allow us to have some form of social interaction with our friends.

The primary news platform barkingmad.ie continues to grow by providing the latest news and tips to dog owners in Ireland. While this is the first time that Barkingmad.ie are running an event of this kind, they do anticipate that we will run many more events of this kind, not just for Limerick Animal welfare but other animal charities in need also.

Explaining his love for animals which goes back 30 years, Owner of Barkingmad.ie and producer of The big bark podcast Darragh Bourke told us, “For as long as I could walk, I’ve had a passion for animals, especially dogs. One of my earliest memories is when I was only 2 years old, playing with our Boxer Judy in our back garden. She used to play this game where she would trap us between her legs until we rubbed her belly for her. I think it was then that I knew I wanted to work with dogs in some capacity. I’ve had dogs for most of my life since then and have gone through all the emotions with them. Dogs are fantastic companions for us and of such benefit to our mental health – from things such as a simple hug or a lick from them to getting out and about for some fresh air on daily walks with them. My own dogs Bruno & Milly are a joy to have around and have done so much for me in terms of my own well being and mental health that I am very grateful for.”

Darragh went on to outline his reasons for choosing Limerick Animal Welfare as the beneficiary for this event. “While there are tonnes of wonderful charities that are deserving of this support, I’ve been very lucky over the last few years to visit the Limerick Animal Welfare sanctuary on a number of occasions and have also been honoured with my full-time day job to have run Christmas collection drives for the last 2 years for them. I have on a few occasions also been blessed to have the opportunity like so many of the volunteers to spend time walking the dogs on their beautiful grounds in Kilfinnane where I met so many wonderful souls, I’d love to take home. The amazing team at LAW from chairperson Marion Fitzgibbon and vice-chairperson Geraldine Gunning to Chris Samways to manager of the sanctuary Marie Quirke have been instrumental in the drive to ensure better welfare for all of our animals over the years. These people have done more for the safety and well being of animals than anyone I can think of. Now more than ever, with their charity shops closed due to Covid-19, they need the financial support from events such as this”.

Tickets for The Barking Mad virtual quiz are selling fast and are priced at €8.50 per team. You can also make an additional donation when purchasing a ticket if you wish.
