Local canine startup Barkingmad.ie raises €1,460 for Limerick Animal Welfare

Barkingmad.ie owner Darragh Bourke presents Cheque to Limerick Animal Welfare for €1460

Local canine startup Barkingmad.ie raises €1,460 for Limerick Animal Welfare

Barkingmad.ie the online platform for dog owners and producers of the Big Bark podcast raised over €1460 for Limerick Animal Welfare over the June weekend by running their very first highly successful virtual quiz. Over 100 teams signed up to take part in the quiz with the tickets fully sold out by the event start date.

The quiz stream was hosted on a site designed especially for the quiz while participants submitted their answers using Google forms which proved to be an efficient method of running the quiz. The quiz consisted of 12 rounds with various topics such as sport, movies & tv, a dog round, cat round and exotic animal rounds.

The quiz also featured a picture round where participants had to name celebrities based on their childhood photos and an audio round as well as a logo round. The quiz ran for 2.5 hours and provided much-appreciated entertainment for people in the Munster region during Covid19 restrictions.

The presentation of the cheque took place at Limerick Animal Welfare in Kilfinnane, Co. Limerick by the owner of Barkingmad.ie – Darragh Bourke. Speaking after the presentation, Darragh explained why he ran the event – “These are difficult times for everyone, but it’s charities like Limerick Animal Welfare who have seen their funding plummet throughout Covid-19 with the closure of both of their shops in the city and restrictions in place to limit visitors to the sanctuary.

As someone who has always been passionate about animals, and with my experience in running barkingmad.ie, I wanted to do whatever I could to raise funds to help the amazing animals at the sanctuary. These funds will go a long way towards the costs associated with the shelter and it’s our privilege to be in a position to raise such funds.”

In recent weeks, there have been some terrible cases of animal cruelty in the midwest region. Barkingmad.ie will continue to work with animal charities throughout Ireland to help raise not only funds but awareness also.

Speaking about some of the recent cruelty cases, Darragh told us “It’s shocking and it breaks my heart to see cases like this day in day out. At the sanctuary this week, we met and heard the stories of so many of these animals and when you hear these stories it would sicken you to the core. Yet the animals such as Max, Emma and Ruby who have all suffered terrible hardship lately, do not have a bad bone in their body and despite their horrific cases of abuse, all of these animals still retain that bond with humans and that desire for love and affection”

Barkingmad.ie plans to host more virtual events during the August bank holiday weekend to raise more funds for Animal welfare charities across Limerick and the midwest.
