The Bellissimo Academy is inspiring and training the next generation of Limerick’s stylists under the supervision of expert educators

Limerick’s next generation of hair stylists are being inspired and seeing their creativity and passion nurtured under the supervision of the expert educators at the Bellissimo Academy.

The academy gives the people of Limerick an opportunity to enjoy professional hair services at a discounted price as aspiring hair stylists gain important hands-on experience in a working salon.

Erika Salmon spoke to I Love Limerick about the experience available to young hair stylists at the academy, “Bellissimo Academy  is a training school for the progression into hairdressing. We provide Level Two City and Guilds Accreditation at the end of the year. We train in colours, cuts, perms, upstyles, and blow dries to facilitate everyone moving on into the future of hairdressing.”

Appointments with trainee stylists are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and all services are supervised to ensure quality results. To book, clients can call 061 317541 and request an appointment with the Training Academy, as opposed to the main Bellissimo Salon.

Erika explained, “We provide services for colour, blow dries, cutting, uptyles. They’re in different segments throughout the year, so as the girls progress, we provide more services for them. Anyone can come in. It’s open to the public. You can book per consultation, and we provide the same services at a reduced rate.”

The price list includes great value options such as a Straight Blow Dry (€18), Curly Blow Dry (€24), Wash, Cut & Blow Dry (€25), and Upstyles (€25). Colour services include Semi-Permanent Colour with Blow Dry (€35), T-Bar Highlights (€40), Half Head (€45), and Full Head Highlights (€60).

Toner can be added for €12. Longer or thicker hair may incur an additional charge, and all colour clients who haven’t had a treatment in the last six months must complete a patch test 48 hours in advance.

Laura, a customer of almost 15 years, said, “ It’s comfortable. They’re friendly. They advise you on your hairstyle. It’s great! Everything is watched and monitored,” before urging “everyone come in” for the service.

Beyond training, Bellissimo also gives back to the local community with recent fundraising helping support BUMBLEance.  ”Every year, we try and do something for charity. So this year it was for Bumbulance, which is an ambulance service that is, especially for children, making it a little bit more child-friendly, a little bit less clinical, a little bit less scary,” said Laura.

She added, “They try and have games and things on the ambulance itself. We had all of our proceeds from our blow-drys for a couple of days go straight towards  BUMBLEance, so the whole lot of the proceeds went straight to BUMBLEance.”
