Limerick’s BeSPOKE Bike Festival 2017 is happening across the city and county this week with a diverse number of cycling related events to celebrate cycling on the 200 year anniversary of the bike.

BeSPOKE Bike Festival 2017 is a Limerick Smarter Travel Initiative which included two safety awareness campaigns on Bedford Row in association with An Garda Siochana and the Road Safety Authority, four bike fixing events across the city and a family cycle on the new shared cycle and walkway from O’Brien’s Park to the University of Limerick.

BeSPOKE Bike Festival 2017 is a Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport national initiative which features cycling events all over the country.

One of the methods of promoting the Limerick Smarter Travel initiative is through Limericks BeSPOKE Bike Festival 2017, which saw a huge variety of events held throughout Limerick in partnership with Limerick Sports Partnership.

There really is going to be something for everyone, so come along, bring your friends and family and let’s celebrate all things bicycle.

Limericks BeSPOKE Bike Festival 2017 listings include:

Wednesday, June 14:

Bike Repair at the Bike Project
Location: Southside Youth Space
Time 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm
About: Basic bicycle maintenance for the local community and those connected to the Southside Youth Space. Bikes can be dropped off the day before the event or early on the day

Teens in the Wild:
Location: Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trails
Time: 11 am until Thursday, June 15th.
This event will introduce young people, in partnership with Foroige and Limerick Youth Service to develop their mountain biking skills.

Thursday, June 15:

St Mary’s Aid – Bike Repair Day
Location: Alms Houses Nicholas Street
Time: 3 pm to 6:30 pm
Basic bicycle maintenance for the local community and those connected to Saint Mary’s Aid. Bikes can be dropped off the day before the event or early on the day.

Bike Repair at Northside Youth Space
Location: Northside Youth Space, Ballynanty, Limerick
Time: 3 pm to 6:30 pm
Basic bicycle maintenance for the local community and those connected to the Northside Youth Space. Bikes can be dropped off the day before the event or early on in the day.

Friday, June 16:

Enable Ireland Table Quiz
Time: 8:30 pm until late
Location: O’Driscoll’s Bar, Corbally
Come and showcase your knowledge. Support a great cause raising funds to buy trikes for children with intellectual disabilities. Coordinated by Enable Ireland – Help our members get cycling! Over 18’s only. Prizes and Raffle. Book you table (teams of 4) call 086 384 5568

Dawn Cycle
Limerick Smarter Travel, Limerick Sports Partnership, The Hub Bike Shop. Start Penney’s. Route: O’Connell St, City Centre, Lough Gur, Return. Registration: 4:45 am. Leaving 5 am. Return: 8am.
Dawn cycle from the city to Lough Gur including coffee/tea and snacks at Lough Gur. Helmets Compulsory. Average speed 26l/h. Suitable for club/touring/commuter cyclists.

Bicycle Theft Prevention and Recovery
Location: Colbert Train and Coach Station.
Time: 7:30 am to 9 am.
This event will highlight tips, tricks and info to support Bicycle Theft Prevention and Recovery to cyclists commuting in and out of Colbert Train and Coach Station Limerick. Family-friendly.

Get West and Speed Date!
Location: TBC
Time: 7 pm until Late
A unique bike-inspired speed dating event will be an experience to remember. Bring your bike or borrow one of theirs. Have some fun and meet like-minded people. Follow Limerick Smarter Travel for more info. Over 18s.

Saturday, June 17:

TACC – Fun Cycle, Treasure Hunt and BBQ
Location: Cycle – Adare Village and area 2:30 pm. Chawke’s Bar, Adare 6 pm until Late.
Come celebrate Limerick Smarter Travel’s 3rd birthday! This event is themed fancy dress fun cycle and treasure hunt (members only), followed by prizes and a BBQ for members and their families. Become a member and enjoy some happy healthy fun! Family-friendly.

Bike Repair Day – Killeedy
Location: Killeedy GAA Ballagh
Time: 2pm
Free minor bike fixes and repair for bikes going on the family fun cycle/picnic on Sunday by Killeedy Health and Wellbeing Committee.

Sunday, June 18th:

Killeedy Family Fun Cycle and Picnic
Location: Killeedy GAA, Ballagh
Time: 2 pm to 5 pm
Newcastle West Cycling Club begins with a safety talk before leaving the GAA grounds and the group will be lead on a family fun cycle around the area. There will be a picnic afterwards where people are asked to bring healthy snacks to enjoy. Any bike will do. Please bring a helmet. Family-Friendly.

Guided Historical Cycling Tour
Location: Get West Tourist Hub, Nicholas Street, Limerick.
Time:5 pm
Guided Historical Cycling Tour of Limerick City. Bring your own bike or borrow one of Limerick Smarter Travel’s bikes. Explore Limerick and learn about some of its interesting and sometimes gruesome past. To find out more visit their Facebook page.
