Limerick GAA and Limerick City and County Council announce a Big Screen Watch Party for the All-Ireland Hurling Final this Sunday in Pery Square

Plans for a Big Screen Watch Party have been announced for Pery Square this Sunday, July 19, as excitement builds across Limerick for the Treaty County’s return to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final for the first time since securing four-in-a-row glory in 2023.

Limerick GAA and Limerick City and County Council are to host a FREE, family-friendly Big Screen watch party at Pery Square, where supporters can gather to watch Limerick’s hurling heroes take on Galway.

Although free, the family-friendly event is ticketed, with reservations now open through Eventbrite, with supporters urged to book early to avoid disappointment for the event beginning at 2 pm.

While many supporters will make the journey to Croke Park, the Big Screen event will offer thousands of fans the opportunity to experience the atmosphere together in the heart of the city’s Georgian Quarter.

There will be entertainment on the day with music from Martin Cosgrave, special guests, DJ’s, face painters, and family fun.

The live screening of the 2023 All Ireland hurling final at Pery Square attracted thousands of fans with live images beamed into Croke Park during the game to show the team the support back home.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, said the county’s appearance in another All-Ireland Final presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase Limerick pride.

“There is a great sense of anticipation building right across Limerick as we prepare to support our hurlers on the biggest stage of all. Whether you’re travelling to Croke Park or staying closer to home, I would encourage everyone to get behind the team and help turn Limerick green.

“For those who can’t make it to Dublin, Pery Square will offer a fantastic family-friendly alternative, with thousands of supporters coming together to cheer on Limerick. It promises to be a great celebration of sport in the heart of Limerick.”

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Tom Ruddle said the event is an opportunity to bring communities together.

“Sport has a unique ability to unite people, and these events will give supporters, families and visitors the opportunity to come together and share in what promises to be a memorable day. The atmosphere generated when Limerick plays in an All-Ireland Final is always special and it is wonderful to see that celebration taking place in the city centre.”

Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly, said the event will create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere in the city.

“The Big Screen event will create a positive buzz throughout the city centre and provide an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to enjoy a safe and family-friendly celebration. We are working closely with our partners and stakeholders to ensure the event is delivered successfully and that everyone attending has an enjoyable experience.

“We are looking forward to welcoming supporters into the city and showcasing the strong support for our Limerick hurlers and the community spirit that exists across Limerick.”

Limerick City and County Council is encouraging businesses, community groups, schools, organisations and residents to show their support for the team by helping to turn the county green ahead of the final.

Additional green and white flags and bunting are being installed across the city, while businesses and property owners are encouraged to decorate shopfronts, offices, homes and public spaces in support of Limerick’s All-Ireland challenge.

Limerick GAA has also announced details for a competition through their #UpLimerick campaign, which sees two sets of All-Ireland Final tickets up for grabs, with businesses and the public invited to share their decorated properties on social media using the hashtag.

Organisers are also asking supporters attending the events to show their pride in Limerick by respecting fellow supporters, local residents, businesses and the public spaces being used for the celebrations.

Mayor Moran added, “Limerick supporters have built a reputation for getting behind their team with passion, positivity and pride. We are asking everyone attending to help keep Pery Square and the surrounding area clean and welcoming by using the bins provided, disposing of litter responsibly and respecting the neighbourhood throughout the day. Let’s show the very best of Limerick both on and off the field.”
