Treaty United FC announce the signing of promising young defender Billy Regan from Galway United FC

Treaty United FC have announced that the promising young defender Billy Regan from Galway United FC has signed for the club.
The 18-year-old, who can operate at centre-back or right-back, began his playing career with Mervue United AFC before progressing into Galway United’s academy setup, which he joined in November 2024.
Regan developed through Galway’s underage and development squads, working alongside some of the club’s most promising young talents, and was named among the substitutes for Galway’s Premier Division clash with Bohemians in November 2024.
Treaty United will look to give Regan the platform to develop and to enjoy first-team football.
Speaking on the signing, Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett said, “Billy is a promising young player and one we are hopeful that can develop into a regular first team starter.”
The announcement of Regan’s signing adds to a busy transfer window for the club in both men’s and women’s teams, which included the addition of striker Colm Whelan ahead of the remainder of the 2026 SSE Airtricity First Division season.
Whelan joins the club after a successful spell with Maree-Oranmore FC, where he was in top goalscoring form and played a key role in the Galway side’s recent success. A proven finisher, Whelan helped Maree-Oranmore FC in their recent successful Connacht Junior Cup campaign and was instrumental in the club’s Michael Byrne Cup triumph, scoring four times in a remarkable 6-5 extra-time victory in the final.
Meanwhile, the women’s team has been busy, announcing five new signings with Eva Loftus, Aibhlinn Cotter, Caroline Penner, Amelia Freeman, and Fiona Doherty all joining the squad for the rest of the 2026 season.
