With support from the City Hall and An Garda Siochana the ceremony is set to be a lively and fitting service for your pets.

Limerick Animal Welfare became a registered charity back in 1983 after years of caring for unwanted animals roaming the city and county of Limerick.

A charity aimed at providing unwanted pets a home and the best possible care, they follow a ‘No Kill’ policy.

Over the years Limerick Animal Welfare has organized walks, street collections, quiz nights, dance night, etc. to raise funds for these animals.

Depending largely on volunteers the group has three charity shops in the city which bring in a third of their expenses.

Geraldine Gunning committee member and volunteer at the welfare group said: “We have come a long way, we are still that small group of people who had a dream of a Sanctuary but with this dream comes worries, running cost per month is €60,000 and we are constantly raising money and hoping each month the books will balance.”

The shelter houses around 70 dogs, up to 100 cats and kittens and during the summer months 24 horses, 9 goats, chickens & rabbits.

“We neuter and spay all our animals which cuts down on the increase of unwanted animals in our society. We provide a safe haven for stray, abused & abandoned animals until we can place them in a suitable loving home, if a suitable home is not found they stay in our care for their lifetime,” Ms. Gunning added.

All are welcome to come along with their dependable loyal trusted and faithful friends for the blessing ceremony. The safety and welfare of the animals will be paramount and the site will be well marshaled on the day.
