No longer can people scoff at the focus and emphasis placed on social media in our modern, tech-oriented world. A basic understanding of social media is recommended for anyone who wants their voice heard online, and a more in-depth understanding for business-owners is not only advised, but is crucial.

Those fortunate to be born into the information age, growing up surrounded by some form of technology, tend to have the upper-hand in terms of social media and digital marketing, while the older generation can often, and understandably, lag behind.

BlueChief Social, founded in 2014 and located in the Nexus Innovation Centre in Tierney building in University of Limerick (UL), understands that the process of learning different aspects of social media can be daunting and puts every effort in place to ensure that the key tools and strategies necessary to fully optimise a business or brand online are taught in a method as simplified as possible and in a relaxed environment.

BlueChief Social CEO, Shane McCarthy, sat down with I Love Limerick to explain exactly what this company does: “BlueChief Social is a leading social media agency that provides training, strategy and account management to MNCs, high-value SMEs, high-potential start-ups and Third Level institutes. We provide a fully encompassed service.”

The idea for the start-up was established when Shane and Keith, Tech Chief of BlueChief Social, decided to combine their talents: “Keith showed me what technology could really do, I was never really tech-savvy. We decided that each of us had a certain skill-set that matched each other’s, and that if we came together, we would have a really strong partnership. We also wanted to have ownership of our own company. We’re very self-empowered and we wanted to run our own company, so that was really where the idea for BlueChief Social came from.”

The majority of businesses today have embraced social media to a degree, fully utilising the benefits of sites such as; Facebook and Twitter. But in our fast-paced world, new applications are being created and developed regularly, and many businesses are not fully benefiting from these resources.

To address this lack of awareness, workshops are offered in social media training and are run as an interactive process, ranging from a two-hour, half day or full day workshop, encouraging group effort and welcoming any questions. These processes of learning are available to; social media workshops for Third Level institutes, workshops for SMEs in beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, on-site social media workshops for MNCs looking to train teams, individuals or higher level management and workshops that overlook the latest social media tools and trends for 2015. The I Love Limerick team were lucky enough to have the opportunity to sit down with Shane, to have an in-depth discussion about social media and its beneifits.

Also attending the workshop was Seán Ryan, Managing Director of Elive, a private, independent company established in 1997 and based in Limerick. Elive specialises in developing eCommerce and eBusiness Solutions, as it has done for over 17 years. Since then, Elive has broadened its range of services to include; hosting, domain registration, email spam/virus scanning and online back-ups, to name a few.

The company’s ethos is to provide customers with a dedicated service, doing so by building personal relationships with clients and responding to enquiries and technical issues immediately. Elive has been ILoveLimerick’s saving grace over the years, always addressing any issues we have, no matter how big or small, and finding a solution in no time.

BlueChief Social’s dedicated team is not only interested in furthering the success of local business. They also engage with companies on a national and international level, from Limerick, Galway, Cork, Waterford, Dublin, the UK and San Francisco.

When asked about their secret to success so far, Shane said: “We’ve pitched a very select team of people and they’re all really good at what they do, and that’s what makes BlueChief Social what it is. I get the confidence I have from the team that’s behind me. Not only do we provide the best service possible, but we care about our clients.”

BlueChief Social has received rave reviews, a worthy feat considering its recent establishment, with a number of positive testimonials displayed on their site. Having recently sat down with Shane for our full-day workshop, we can also offer our own positive and honest reviews. All questions were answered in full, every query was addressed and each member of our team left feeling informed and enlightened, with the ability to fully utilise all aspects of our social media and our brand.
