Janesboro was filled with music, fun, and community spirit as residents and friends celebrated its inaugural Boro Fest

The first-ever Boro Fest brought music, fun, and community spirit to Janesboro on Sunday, June 7, a celebration of the local area and park joining residents and neighbouring communities together.

The day was a true celebration of the area and its people, with a host of competitions and games bringing together the diverse community.

Speaking at the event, Rachel Collopy of Janesboro Residents Association said the festival brought people from Janesboro and surrounding communities together. She said, “It was a huge success with so many people from this community and the surrounding communities all over Limerick. Everybody, all different cultures, and all different nationalities are here together today, and it’s so important for us to build community and work together.”

The family-friendly celebration featured a packed programme of activities for all ages, including competitions, such as a “bonnie baby competition”, as well as games and more entertainment.

Rachel explained, “ We’ve had competitions, we’ve had games for young and old. We’ve had bonnie baby competitions, knobbly knees competitions. We’ve had the great Boro Bake Off. I must also mention the two amazing local bands that we had who came to support us. There was Limerick Tune Weavers under Miriam Dawson and Sixteen Tons of Jive. So there’s been a lot of dancing and singing!”

Reflecting on a successful inaugural festival, the organisers were grateful to everyone who showed their support, and looked toward an even bigger festival for its second year.

“There are so many people who came to support us, and we are so thankful and so grateful for everybody who came,” said Rachel, continuing, “All of the people who sponsored everything that we have here today. We are so grateful for all the support that they gave to us, and we’re hoping that next year will be even bigger and better!”

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online.
