Mayor welcomes jobs investment by Bosch in Limerick

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick has welcomed the announcement that Bosch is to establish an R&D centre for automotive electronics here in Limerick.

The investment which is supported by IDA Ireland will see 30 jobs being created over the next two years. The global supplier of technology and services said the focus of the activities in Limerick will be on semiconductor products as well as automotive electronics.

The establishment of Bosch’s Automotive R&D Centre in Limerick recognises the increased demand for semiconductors as cars evolve to become sustainable, safer and more exciting.

Mayor Daniel Butler said: “This announcement shows that Limerick can compete and win investments in a global competitive marketplace.

“Bosch is a worldwide business that has chosen the Limerick city region to establish its new Automotive Research and Development Centre. This decision validates and reinforces the unique Limerick ecosystem in place here which sees collaboration and partnership as key principles among all groups and sectors.”

“It is heartening to hear Bosch’s Senior Vice President Development of Integrated Circuits Dr. Oliver Wolst say that they are committed to working with the best engineering talent to develop the most advanced technology. This highlights how important our third level sector is in producing the right engineering talent with the right qualifications for the jobs available.”

“This announcement reinforces Limerick’s reputation as a centre for the software and automotive systems industry, something that we can leverage as we develop our employment opportunities into the future.”

“It also is an acknowledgement of the skills and lifestyle available in Limerick.”
