LemonSoap Productions’ play ‘Boyfriends’ comes to Belltable on Wednesday, October 15, as part of its 2025 national tour

LemonSoap Productions’ play Boyfriends by playwright Ultan Pringle is back for an 8 stop national tour this October and November, where they investigate the ‘Situationship’ in their witty pop culture stage show that tackles some big themes.
Hailed as “one of the best, if not the best, new plays of 2024” by The Arts Review, LemonSoap Productions bring their hit play ‘Boyfriends’ for an eight-stop nationwide tour – opening at the Belltable, Limerick on Wednesday 15 October, touring nationally until 15 Nov with tickets available online now.
Following a three-month affair between two anonymous men, Donegal playwright, Ultan Pringle’s heartfelt play Boyfriends charts the ups-and-downs and roundabouts of a modern situationship. As they swing through four million one hundred and ninety-one thousand possibilities of what they might mean to one another, through time, sex, Madonna songs, nightclubs, period dramas and calorie counting. The play asks us to ponder on that age-old question: “What the f*ck is romance anyway?”
After a chance meeting in The George nightclub, the couple first ghost each other, then make up and foster a dog, and ultimately end up grappling with what it means to actually be sorta-kinda-maybe in a very intimate proper relationship with one another. Boyfriends seeks to explore modern love, grief, existentialism and the heartbreaking joy of really getting to know someone.

Written by Donegal writer and actor, Ultan Pringle, with the addition of the directorial dexterous hands of Joy Nesbitt. The play is a two-hander with Emmanuel Okoye [Disenchanted (2022), The Dry (RTE, 2022)] and Ultan Pringle [Falling For The Life of Alex Whelan (2023)], who play two star-crossed lovers who take a big look at their very new relationship and what a modern day romance should become.
Pringle says about this touring production, “Boyfriends lands with audiences for it’s a play about connection, and companionship, and I think we’re at a time in our world where we’re all a little bit searching for togetherness. We root hard for these two fellas who are bumbling and insecure and trying very hard to work out how they could love one another. And there’s a remote-controlled pug dog made of old socks – so, what’s not to love?
I’m buzzing to bring a romantic comedy like it around Ireland, to go back to my home of Donegal, and to Dublin, Kildare, Galway, Limerick, and Longford. And I’ve never been to Roscommon or Clare, so I’m looking forward to road tripping it! Is the Burren close to Ennis? I’ll find out.”
Definition: “A situationship is a romantic or sexual relationship that is undefined and noncommittal. People in a situationship are more than friends with benefits, but less than committed romantic partners”
WARNING: This production contains mentions of disordered eating, suicidal ideation and bereavement
