Bring Your Limericks to Limerick 2018 Festival is on its way!

This year Bring Your Limericks to Limerick 2018 Festival is in its sixth year, and ready to take place from August 24th to 26th. Over the past six years, the festival has grown in size both in terms of the audience as well as the performers. This year’s festival is promised to have a fantastic line-up of storytelling, competition and both writing and poetry workshops.

The Bring Your Limerick to Limerick 2018 Festival is supported by the Limerick Writers’ Centre and Global Limerick, with its main aim to make both poetry and creative writing more accessible to the wider public. The Bring Your Limericks to Limerick competition invites people worldwide to come and participate in the festival and also helps achieve their mission to make the arts more accessible to the general public.

Every year they invite the public to send in their original Limericks for the competition. Each Limerick is judged by a panel of experts, with the best Limerick winning an amazing €500 prize.

The weekend is jam-packed with walking tours around Limerick, including some of our historic ruins, slam poetry, art exhibitions, storytelling, traditional Irish music sessions and writing workshops. The festival has designed itself to be an amazing opportunity for novices and experts alike to experience not only poetry but Limerick city, the home of the famous five line poem.

“In Limerick a Festival ran,
To find Poets, for that was the plan.
It inspired some folks,
To write ‘Limerick’ jokes,
From Ireland all the way to Japan”
